FIRST LOOK: Booster Gold and Blue Beetle on SMALLVILLE

TVGuide.com has your first look at Booster Gold and Blue Beetle from the April 22 episode of Smallville, written by Geoff Johns and directed by Tom Welling:

Geoff Johns talks to TVGuide.com about the episode (linked above) and explains that we're getting the early version of Booster Gold, the full-on glory hound hero who gets into superheroing for selfish reasons. As you might imagine, Clark is going to be horrified by this. The Blue Beetle in this one is Jamie Reyes (See? He was NEVER going to really die) who Booster saves and then somehow merges with the scarab.

Comments

  1. Woot!

  2. It looks cool.  However, I think Blue Beetle was always going to look like a Beetleborg.

  3. Booster looks awesome, Beetle looks………but Booster looks AWESOME! HE HAS ENDORSMENTS!

  4. As a long time Blue and Gold fan, I can safely say…IT’S ABOUT TIME! I’ve been dying to see what they do with the costumes and they didn’t disappoint. Of course, I’m gonna have to sit through the general public’s “Who are they?” or “They look silly” but screw it. Ever since 1991 when I got into the JLI around it’s end (Breakdowns) I’ve been a Booster and Beetle fan. I like Jaime. And while I wish Ted were getting more TV appearances (being dead has that drawback) Jaime is becoming a character I’m really starting to love.

  5. Booster looks great– Beetle looks like power rangers.

The latter seasons of this show will Not age well.

  6. What with the Power Ranger villian???
    Booster= Awesome!

  7. @ ericmci

    Same brainwave? haha

  8. Blue Beetle: Insert Power Ranger/Sentai/Kamen Rider/Metal Hero refference here.

Booster Gold: Reminds me of the 52 # 2 cover in a great way.

  9. I agree with everybody else, Booster look sgood but Bettle looks a little campy.

  10. Where’s Skeets?? And Billy West better be the voice!

  11. Wow…who would have ever dreamed 10 years ago that we’d get all these fanboy treats??!

  12. Cool. But are we every going to get a Bruce Wayne/Batman episode. I know Chloe hinted at finding “a billionaire with gadgets” but it’s be cool to see a young Bruce before.

  13. I agree with everyone else about the campiness of Blue Beetle, but I cannot really think of any other way to portray him that would not have put some in an uproar over ‘how much they changed him’.

I guess that they thought this is the lesser of two evils.

  14. Good stuff!

  15. @marshak75  I remember spending hours downloading the X-men trailer at low res on dial up and watching every single frame a thousand times. Different days indeer.

  16. Oh my!

  17. Wasn’t there test footage on this site not to long ago for a prosposed Blue Beetle show? I thought it showed the initial transformation into the armored Blue Beetle. That looked decent for wat it was, I havew faith that it will look good. Besides, it’s Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Awesome.

  18. This is probably why they should have gone for the Ted Kord Blue Beetle for Smallville….I do think this is Jaime’s time in the comics and in the cartoon so I can see why maybe they dont want to confuse people…but I think Ted Kord would have been better for Smallville.   Or perhaps Booster and Ted Kord rescue Jaime Reyes….Ted Kord dies saving Jaime, but Jaime takes up the mantle…and you only see this costume for just a brief moment at the end?

    Booster’s costume looks fantatic!

  19. @Skyfire124  Or you could hybrid the characters.

  20. I too would prefer Ted on the show. That could have been pretty humorous. Instead, it looks like they were going for “bad ass” with Beetle and got something… else. But he might be a bad ass on the episode, who knows?

  21. FUCK YEAH BETTLEBORG FLASHBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. 🙂 wow!

  23. I would watch a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle spinoff. I’m gonna need something to fill the Smallville void, and this seems like it would have more potential than a JSA or Legion of Superheros TV Show

  24. Looks awesome!  Just watched Geoff’s Legion episode of Smallville again!  Cannot wait for this one!!! You know its gonna be packed with comic goodies..

  25. I know I’m going to enjoy this. Blue Beetle does sort of look like a beetle borg haha.

  26. I made peace with the fact that DC/WB is not bringing Ted back. We stuck with Jamie and thats how it is. I think Booster looks really good and Blue Beetle looks fine. Probably will look better while moving. Im excited about this episode.
Also, Hawkman looked pretty good in his apperances.

  27. Beetle looks really poorly here. But I think he’ll look marginally better when we see the episode.

  28. the costumes always look ridiculous, they just dont translate. So i just ignore them! its the way forward

  29. Considering how good the test footage of that Blue Beetle thingy was I am surprised how ugly this version looks.

Booster looks spot on though. (Gold lighting is a bit much though)

  30. Are those endorsements I spy on Booster? That is AWESOME!

  31. I know that the whole ifanboy crew is busy, but it would be really cool if someone did a Smallville retrospective podcast, videocast, or an article of the whole series once it is done. I would love to hear what the ifanboy guys have to say about it.

  32. I’ve been waiting for this episode! Kamen Rider Beetle is something that needs getting used to. My question; how much is booster charging for ad space on that shiney-hiney of his?

  33. Ok ok.. Lets tell the truth Booster looks good for an adaptaion for a tv show except for the glasses; they look like regular sunglasses and the head set and the lack of skeets!! Blue Beetle does not look bad either considering again; its a tv show adaptation for comicbook heroes. I miss Ted and the old costume to be truthful, the new character Jamie and his costume do nothing for me. I am super excited to see this episode I am with everyone else Booster Gold is the man and probably should have a movie of his own. That and a JLA movie would also be the shit!! I read somewhere today that a comicbook fans time is short and it was here on IFanboy? Well I have been a comicbook fan for about 30 years if not longer. (Especially DC) So TV shows, cartoons, and all comic movies make my day. This ranks right up there with the best moments in my 30 years of comics!!!!!

    K

  34. Hooray!

Say what you will about the new Blue Beetle, but I loved his sereies, short-lived though it was. And I’ve loved Booster from the get-go. Throw in the fact that Johns wrote this episode and I’m making sure this is a Smallville I won’t miss!
