Extended Trailer: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

Remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? You do know they’re from the classic comics of the 80s by Eastman and Laird, right? Well they have another movie coming out, this time it’s CG animated. And you know what? It looks pretty good.

I’m not sure though, is this aimed at kids or at me? I’d go see it based off this trailer though… I wonder if April’s in it?

Comments

  1. I loved the original live action movie. People forget that that was a pretty faithful adaptation of the Laird/Eastman books. And it was well done, too.

I’m not sure about this one. I’m on the fence… leaning towards being excited.

  2. oh jeez…

    where is casey jones?

i’m on the fence and i’ll probably never see it, i still need to see ult. avengers 2 and iron man and those come before TMNT

  3. eh maybe

  4. Time to chime in as the resident TMNT guy.

The movie is similar to Superman Returns in that the first film is completely canon and elements of II and III are used. Stills of Splinter’s room show the Time Scepter.

April WILL be in it, she has been training in ninjitsu (element of the comics) and will be sporting a fine yellow outfit.

Casey Jones will also be in the movie.

General plot is as follows: After the fall of Shredder, the four turtles go their different ways. Leo wanders the world to become a better warrior. Raph becomes a masked vigilante teaming up/taking after Casey Jones. Mike and Donny have become entertainers using costumes as a way to go out in public. A man named Max Winters (voiced by Patrick Stewart) unleashes these mutant beasts on the world. Meanwhile, Karai the daughter of The Shredder has taken control of the foot.

The film IS rated PG so it may be more childish than we’re used to, but remember the original movie was PG too and it really was a faithful adaptation of the TMNT.

In addition, Peter Laird (co-creator, now sole owner) is very involved in the project including character designs, storyline and script.

I’ll be there to see it opening day.

  5. The trailer didn’t get me interested, but jestergobin’s synopsis of the plot made it sound like the preview didn’t do it justice.

I loved the Turles as a kid, but I think they’re at their best when they are the only mutants and they’re taking on Shredder and the foot clan. I think they lose something when they take on other Mutants (like in the second film) or Aliens (like the modern cartoon show).

But I loved Krang, so maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the exception is a gaint living brain.

  6. I loved the books and I really liked the first movie.

I felt that the series really took a turn for the worse with the inclusion of Vanilla Ice though… Man, I’d like to meet the guy who thought that was a good idea.

  7. Brandon, I don’t know if you’ve watched the complete new run of the show (first 4 seasons at least) but it is really well done. Every episode builds on the last one. I strongly recommend it. I would avoid TMNT Fast Forward at all costs.

    Here’s a movie synopsis from ComingSoon.net:

“After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Max Winters is amassing an army of ancient monsters to apparently take over the world. And only one super-ninja fighting team can stop them

  8. I will be there, opening night, Turtles is such a massive part of my childhood. I recently showed my friends the first film…they laughed…but I cheered. I’m there by God.

  9. Just because it has a PG rating does not mean it will be a bad movie. The Incredibles was PG and it was fantastic. I like to think there are some great movies once in a while I can watch with my Nephew.

  10. After I saw this trailer awhile ago, my wife went out and bought me all 3 movies. So you can say I’m a little excited about a new turtle movie.

  11. OK, so my interest has been slighlty picked… see it… fo’ sure!

  12. well I’m excited, I’m definitely seein’ this one

  13. I think the potpurri concept of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES had a better niche in the 80’s. That’s why I think this movie in particular is targeted to a younger audience than the original, somehow I remember it a little more summer blockbuster that movie for kids. That doesn’t mean the movie is going to be bad, actually it has some cool shots but I may wait to rent it. Let’s hope that updating the concept doesn’t damage the charm this characters had

  14. If Vanilla Ice is in, I’m in.

I can remember when my neighbor became obsessed with the original black and white Eastman/Laird comics (are those things still going for a fortune?) and then the cartoon came out with its “cowabunga dudes” and all the people he’d been hyping them to thought he was nuts. Those went from obscure “chase” comics to characters printed on every marketable inanimate object in seemingly a few months; I still get whiplash thinking about it.

  15. I’m super excited. I just love the amount of action they’re able to bring to the characters, the fluidity of motion.

They look like actual reptiles turned ninjas. I know I can’t wait.

  16. Where’s Corey Feldman?! c’mon, its not as if he’s got better things to do. I’m still waiting for the day that he makes a comeback.

  17. If they got Feldman and Van Winkle I’d be in for sure or fo sho
    I’m not sure

  18. I saw the trailer and was all up for it.. Apparently, my friend doesn’t like it since its cgi.. She had to tell me that there were two other movies before this one.. I just gave her a dumbfounded look.. I’m so going to watch it on opening day.. 😀

  19. She had to tell me that there were two other movies before this one..

Oh, there were more than two!

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100758/
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103060/
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108308/

I highly recommend the first one, it’s actually quite good. I don’t know why I don’t own it on DVD.

  20. I don’t own the first one because I just know that they’ll come out with some 2 disc set with a ton of special features at some point (Probably when this new one comes out on DVD) and I need me some Turtle extras.

  21. As a kid, I was amazed by the extent to which some of that first movie was lifted directly from the comics. I felt respected as a reader. Netflix will soon tell me how naive I was being.

  22. Thanks Conor! I’ll check it out. 🙂
