David Aja’s RED SKULL Covers Make Me HUN-gry.

Out in July, Red Skull is a 5 issue mini-series that tells the origin of Johann Schmidt, the Red Skull himself, Captain America's ultimate Nazi nemesis. Written by Greg Pak, with art by Mirko Colak, the covers have already sold me.

Keep scrolling and both horrified by evil, and wickedly impressed by design and art.

  1. great covers! I don’t ever want to mess with herr skull.

  2. I wonder if the movie will have the Red Skull origin.

  3. Where do I enlist?

  4. Hmmm. It is okay to buy a mini-series just because of the covers?

  5. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@conor  Didn’t you like the Magneto Testament mini? More than just the covers to make this worth a look.

  6. No swatikas.  Smart move.

  7. Even without the swastikas, it migth be a problem getting some of those in Germany.

  8. @PaulMontgomery  I did like that mini.

  9. That newspaper cover is stunning.

  10. From the design and art point of view these are amazing.

From the point of view of someone, whose grandparents lived through a nazi occupation – utterly TERRIFYING.

  11. That is the most consistently awesome comic book cover designs i’ve seen in quite a while. outside of the aesthetics, the system they’ve designed is what makes the whole thing work. Love the newspaper one…can you believe at one time people thought Blackletter type was good for paragraph blocks!?! ha

Will def get this for the covers. If the interiors are generic comic art, i’m gonna be so mad.

  12. I wish David Aja would do more interior art. I miss those days of Immortal Iron Fist goodness.

  13. BTW..do we know who did the cover art/design?

  14. @wallythegreenmonster  David Aja. It’s in the title.

  15. @conor  — thanks. Due to my complete mind fart on that a “DUH!” would have been appropriate. =)
i blame the transcendent power of design! ha

  16. @ Conor. Sure it is ok to buy it for the covers. Isn’t that why everyone is going to be buying “Deadman and Flying Graysons” mini coming up?  But at least Pak should give us a decent story to go with the covers.

  17. Cap says, ” I dont like them.”

  18. I don’t know who’s going to pencil this mini…I wish him luck trying to match the magnificence of the covers.

  19. Wow, amazing. It shows how gorgeous mainstream comic company covers can with the right inspiration and creator.

  20. Those are fantastic. Really terrific art and very suited to the subject matter. So great to not just get the usual seres of pin-ups that are generic and boring. these are stunning. I don’t read Captain america and have actually read maybe 2 comics in my life with Red Skull in them, and those were from the 70s, but these look amazing.

  21. What i find fascinating from a design perspective is that the mastheads are completely different for each issue, yet the whole series works within a visual system so you understand they all go togther. Totally breaks the rules of magazine/publication cover design. Thats some good stuff.

  22. Ace covers!

  23. These covers are amazing… and pretty damn scary all at once!

  24. Nice!  Its a shame they are going to have barcodes on the front. All except #4. That actually blends really well.

  25. wonder if Red Skull will be on the insides too. . .

  26. aside the wrong German … great covers…

  27. Wait- I thought he worked for Hydra?

    -kidding.

  28. I resent the use of a Nietzsche quote on a Nazi-style cover. Lazy. Very lazy.
