Buy (Civil) War Bonds!

We came across these Civil War Propaganda posters and thought they were pretty clever. I think I need to get me a “Cap Lives” stencil and start vandalizing.

Thanks to James at Isotope for the link.

The first think I did was just to see if the disgraced Micah Ian Wright was involved. These reminded me of his propaganda remixed posters from a few years back. It wasn’t, but that was a fun trip down memory lane, wasn’t it?

  1. Uh, the link just takes me back to this page.

  2. Yes! Cap does live onnnnnnnnn!!!

  3. clever. i like the cap lives grafitti, didn’t someone actually do a magneto lives graffiti in new york a few months back?
i think we have a comic geek tagger running around somewhere in manhattan

  4. Ha, the posters were pretty well done. That She-Hulk poster was kinda scary and would make me register even if I had no super powers. I would fear death from one of her noogies.

That Cap stencil is badass. It would make an awesome T-Shirt. Hmmm, maybe I should e-mail geek armor about that…

  5. Raph, it works for some, but not others, and we’re working on it.

  6. Uh, the link just takes me back to this page.
Weird, the first time I clicked on it, it worked. But after I accidentally closed the page, it hasn’t worked since.

  7. We can’t quite figure it out. Try it on a different browser. Here, on my mac, in Firefox, I’m having the same problem. When I go to Safari, it works fine. Oddly enough, when I go to the link from the Isotope site, it brings me back to the ifanboy site. So your guess is as good as ours.

    Try this:

  8. Weird, I’m on a Mac using Firefox as well. When I tried it in Safari, it worked the first time. I closed the window and clicked the link again, back to iFanboy. I feel like I’m stuck in an internet cul-de-sac.

  9. Micah Ian Wright? I haven’t seen that name in years! I’m having a flashback!

  10. Me too. And not good flashbacks.

  11. Those are some of the coolest things I have ever seen. This is the kind of thing that I love about art. It simply inspires more art. A brilliant circle!

  12. Hey iFanboys,

If I click the link from the iFanboy.com main page it works. If I click the link from the iFanboy.com article page then it doesn’t. If I turn off my Referrer header then link works all the time. I suspect the problem isn’t with iFanboy.com but with nearmintheroes.org. Anyhow, hope this info helps.

  13. I’m glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for the link. I plan on creating more in the future.

  14. Cool Shane, thanks!

  15. That is very cool. I’m inspired to make that Cap Lives stencil and tag up the town.

  16. Oh lord do I love old propaganda posters. There’s a great war bonds one with a personification of victory and a boy scout that would have been ripe for parody (swap in Ms. Marvel maybe), but alas I can’t remember the designer and Meggs’ History of GD isn’t on hand :/

I’m pretty sure the cap lives one is photoshop and not a real stencil; closed letters are hard to do, plus I totally recognize that font from blambot. (indie star, am I right?). Too bad; it would be sweet if it was.

  17. Nope, not a Blambot font, though I do use a lot of theirs. I found that font on a graffiti site. It’s possible that it’s a free knock off or something. You’re correct that the Cap Lives is photoshop and not a stencil. I used photoshop on all of these. The war posters were actually pretty easy. The hardest ones were the ones where I had to do a lot of replacing of background elements like on the Go Canada image.
