Bluewater to Produce… wait for it… Charlie Sheen Comic Book

In a move that surprised no one, Bluewater Comics, who make headlines almost every day for their celebrity profile comics, are well on their way to quickly producing a Charlie Sheen comic book, ripe for release this summer.

Infamous Charlie Sheen (The 'Winning' Edition) will be written by Mark Shapiro, drawn by Fred Grivaud, and feature a cover by Joe Phillips.

Said Bluewater president Darren Davis, “We’re not looking to exacerbate what could be a sad situation; a public person self-destructing on camera. We can all laugh how outrageous Sheen is behaving, all waiting for the next ‘Duh. Winning” moment, but I want to make sure that part of the focus of this issue deals fairly with mental health and substance abuse issues.”

I don't know how this situation will change between now and this book's release, but it seems like it could be a tricky situation, with last minute pages to keep it from seeming woefully out of date.

There are plenty of opinions on Bluewater and their publishing model, but what can't be denied is that it gets them press. I get a google alert for "comic books" every day, and almost every one of them has a story about a Bluewater comic book right at the top, be it Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber or Betty White, there's a reporter somewhere who wants to file a story on it. And just like television, there are shows for certain kinds of viewers that aren't for others. These clearly aren't for me, but then neither is Access Hollywood. Bluewater is, however, using the format of comics in a way that no one else is, which is certainly interesting. If anything is true in our culture today, it's that celebrity is probably the most valuable commodity there is. Wealth can be created just by association with someone of some measure of fame. It's odd, and I'm not sure it's healthy, but it's true. If what I say is true, and the comic book form is flexible and can be used to tell any kind of story, Bluewater is proving me correct. I have no idea what their sales are like, but it's certainly getting them attention. It's not the best of what comics have to offer, but who am I to judge?

Comments

  1. I hope it comes with a vial of tiger blood…

  2. Bluewater is the TMZ of the comic book market.

  3. I already told them what I thought of it earlier today. It’s the lowest common denominator and totally #notwinning. They justified themselves by comparing themselves to People magazine. Classy.

  4. I’ve never seen a bluewater comic for sale, but i know of them and their bio-comics. Someone must be buying them…somewhere.

kind of a fascinating niche they’ve carved for themselves.

  5. What a world.

  6. LOL!

  7. *SIGH*

  8. @charlesp1138  – Actually, I’m pretty sure TMZ actually pays people, like their reporters and papparazzi.  This 180 degrees from Bluewater, from my understanding.

  9. Can someone make this “Charlie Sheen” stuff just go away…. Bring back Britney or Lindsey meltdowns

  10. Regardless the avenue, the lowest common denominator always rises to the top.

  11. I don’t know what is worst, the fact that Bluewater is making this or the fact that comics sites are giving them publicity for it.

  12. I heard John Suntres will do a Walter Mathau edition. :p

  13. good point @drakedangerz

  14. @drakedangerz  yup

I am so sick of that asrehole

  15. This article is the first test for the “Tinted Sheen” application for chrome. I can’t read or see any of this. Success!

  16. I fully expect a slabbed copy of this to sell for 1.1 million dollars 50 years from now.

  17. @drakedangerz  We need something like this comic known to the readers for comparison, when examining great comics, good comics, not so well done and COMPLETE UTTER CRAP!!!

  18. @warmachine15  I hope they put real tiger blood in the ink! Didn’t KISS do that for one of their comics?

  19. If Sheen writes it, I’ll buy it.

  20. This will be even worth more value when he’s dead.

Cause Charlie Sheen will be dead waaay before this comes out.

  21. What’s amazing to me is how fast Bluewater is slapping this thing together.  As someone mentioned earlier, somebody, lots of somebodies, are buying what Bluewater is churning out, otherwise, they wouldn’t keep publishing this crap.

  22. WINING!

    I’ll stop now.
