$3 Sale at Top Shelf

Feeling a bit overloaded on superhero comics from the big two? Been thinking about what else is out there?

Well, Top Shelf Productions might be just the place for you. In celebration of their 10th anniversary, they’ve got a whole bunch of their stuff for only 3 bucks, or less! The catch (always a catch!) is that you have to order $30 worth of stuff in total.

There’s some fantastic stuff from some of my favorites, like Alex Robinson, Jeffrey Brown, Craig Thompson, and others. The sale runs from April 9-18. Here’s the complete list.

I thought this might be a good place to share recommendations. If you’ve read any of these books, and think others should try them out, share your knowledge.

The first thing I’m going to recommend is Alex Robinson’s Tricked, which, for $3, just can’t be beat. It’s the story of several people whose lives seem unconnected, as we watch slices of their very different lives. There’s a waitress, and an aging rock star, and a couple scummy dudes, and I really dug it. Plus, as we all know, creator Alex Robinson is famous for drawing a certain sexual organ we all know and love.

Comments

  1. Craig Thompson’s work is totally amazing… earnest, verbose and vibrant. Highly recommend Blankets and Carnet de Voyage.

I also recommend Spiral-Bound by Aaron Renier. It’s something like those classic European cartoon books (Babar and Tintin) for the American indie-rock set. And it’s charmingly packaged in a faux spiral bound notebook… totally awesome.

I’d like to see some more recos up too… can’t decide what else to pick up!

  2. Tricked is only marked down to $20.00. 🙁

And they don’t have Wanted on the list at all!

  3. The Tricked softcover is $3. The hardcover is $20.

Wanted (the one by Millar?) is from Top Cow I think, not Top Shelf. Very different publishers indeed.

I never read Bighead, but I’ve read some of Brown’s other autobio work, and I liked it a lot. So I’m going to check that out.

I’ve always meant to buy Trenches by Scott Morse, which is about 2 brothers in WWI.

Bop! is a small addendum to Box Office Poison, and for $3, it’s a great addition to the original.

And I’ve never read James Kochalka stuff, but people LOVE it, and there are some good deals on his books as well.

  4. There is a Tricked in the 3 dollar area as well!

Has anyone hear ever listened any of the Alan Moore Spoken word cds? I’m considering checking one of them out.

  5. I’ve always meant to buy Trenches by Scott Morse, which is about 2 brothers in WWI.

I bought it the last time they had a sale. It was… okay.

  6. Wow. I just put in my order and I ended up spending $45 (with shippiing). But I’m exited. Seeing as I don’t do a lot of indie reading, I am nevertheless looking forward to what I picked.

Does Top Shelf also print Jimmy Corrigan?

  7. Nope. I’m not sure who actually.

  8. Great find Josh. I just picked up Tricked and Bop! for $3 each. I also bought Lost Girls based on the video podcast and Ron giggling like a girl about it. Total damage $75 shipped. I can totally live with that.

  9. Wanted (the one by Millar?) is from Top Cow I think, not Top Shelf. Very different publishers indeed.

Doh! My bad, heard Top I was all sweet!!! Because I was really wanting to read it and decide if I actually like Millar

  10. Dammit…I just bought Creature Tech last week…sonofah…

  11. Pantheon publishes Chris Ware.

  12. Awesome deals on that site. For $45, I got Tricked, Box Office Poison, Bop!, and The Surrogates. Where else could you get four quality books for that much? Can’t wait to get them!

  13. I got Box office, Tricked, both the “conversation” books, Masterplan, Trenchs( which i too am excited for, WWI doesn’t get enough “press”), Abe, and Tales of the great unspoken.

    final damage, 50 bucks even.

    I am stoked.

  14. I got so many I don’t even remember the titles. Hitting $30 was not hard at all. Good looking out Josh!
