January 11, 2012 3:43 pm Good article! As I was reading it, I thought finally, finally, finally we have something here that nobody could possibly dispute. Looks like I was wrong. *sigh"
October 31, 2011 1:41 pm Dear everyone, Why so serious? We are comic book fans talking about comic books. Of course vacuous, inane comments added nothing substantial to a meaningful conversation (nor does righteous indignation about those comments). Let's all lighten up and move along. Nothing to see here.
September 19, 2011 3:43 pm Well said Mr. Mroczkowski. No offense intended to anyone else but it is your articles that keep me coming back to this website.
September 8, 2011 3:32 pm Positive: Batgirl. I've never been a Batgirl fan but I surprisingly enjoyed this book (both writing and art). Perhaps as a non-Batgirl purist, I was less put off by the change in continuity. I don't know anything about Stephanie Brown and Oracle was never really on my radar. Funny how confounded some folks are that her back injury was cured when comic book characters routinely return from the dead! Liked how Ms. Simone began peeling back Barbara' s inner demons and will be interested to see where she takes it. Negative: Justice League International: Had high hopes for this book (especially after enjoying Generation Lost). I felt like Mr. Jurgens just mailed this one in. I understand that he was trying to tap into the past “campy” vibe of this team, but the dialogue just came off as overly cartoonish and moronic. Definitely did not hook me like a good #1 issue should (instead it felt like some throwaway issue from a tired arc). Hope this title improves dramatically (and quickly)

Comics are like baseball.  Both share a fanbase that is aging and shrinking.  The market is mostly aimed at adults and very few kids have time, interest (or funds) for comic books given the more interactive world of xbox, playstation, et al.  Not enough influx of new readers (consumers) as the older ones taper off.  Not sure I would have had time for comics when I was a kid if the internet had existed then (saying that makes me feel old).  Sad to say but I believe the comic industry (like most print media) is dying a slow death.  Hopefully it will morph into something sustainable but I would not wager on it.  By the way ... excellent article.

January 24, 2011 2:44 pm Note to self:  Never include a number in my team name.  That's just daring the fates.
