August 12, 2016 12:49 pm To be fair, Ayer also directed Sabotage, which came out the same year as Fury, and was poorly received. I think the biggest problem here is the rushed production. I'm sure that if Ayer had time to write a proper script and make a movie without too much studio meddling, we could have gotten something pretty neat.

August 10, 2016 8:22 am I think Jason Aaron gets that. The problem is that if the book were given a different title, and if Jane Foster were given a different name, it would sell a lot less. I definitely understand the issue regarding the name "Thor" and I agree. However, her name doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the book. Aaron and Dauterman are making one of Marvel's best books right now, regardless of what she calls herself.

August 10, 2016 8:16 am If I ran WB, I would scrap all of the upcoming Justice League related movies (except Wonder Woman), and I would make nothing but Jai Courtney Captain Boomerang Movies. Maybe a few Slipknot prequels as well.

August 1, 2016 2:29 pm On the topic of getting rid of individual issues: My wife and I had a garage sale to raise money for adoption, and I decided to sell almost all of my individual issues for 50 cents each, or three for a dollar. They were mostly all random Marvel and DC books (with a little bit of image thrown in) from 2006-2015. I ended up selling every single one very quickly. It cleared up a ton of space, and now we're closer to our goal of adopting a child.

March 28, 2016 9:30 am I hated this movie so much. Ron is 100 percent correct. Even as a big DC fan, I had no attachment to any of the characters. Everyone was either sad or angry all the time. I never really felt that any of the characters cared about one another, even though the movie told us so. I never got any sense of warmth or love between Affleck's Batman and Irons' Alfred. Just cold detachment and resentment. The Superman/Lois relationship did not feel earned in any way. I didn't sense any emotion between Clark and Martha Kent either. I only saw sadness and anger. Batman's anger with Superman, Superman's anger towards Batman, Perry White's annoyance towards Clark, Alfred's annoyance/resentment towards Bruce, Lex's anger towards Superman, Superman being sad and alone, Lois' sadness at the end. Just anger and sadness over and over and over again. The anger and the sadness in this movie were meaningless, because there were no moments of joy or happiness to contrast with the anger/sadness. Even the Nolan movies, for as Dark as they were, showed other emotions. You really got the sense that Alfred and Bruce loved one another. Bruce's interactions with Fox showed some levity. Ledger's Joker had some humor. Bruce's fake drunk birthday speech in Batman Begins gave me a chuckle. Even if you put Snyder's treatment of the characters aside, this movie is just a poorly crafted film. There are rapid scene changes with no transitions or establishing shots. The camera is close for so much of the action, it makes the film disorienting. For example, in the Batmobile chase, the camera is either on Affleck's face, or right by one of the cars. We don't really get any shots from further away, so we don't see the scope of the chase. It just looks disorienting. Compare this with any of the chase scenes in the Nolan movies. Nolan has some closer shots, but he also pulls the camera away so you can get a clear view of the chase, and see the scope of the action. Even Batman's warehouse fight scene was shot close, and it did not look good at all.

May 1, 2015 9:31 pm Great podcast guys! This movie was pretty much what I expected. At this point, you're either on board with the Marvel cinematic universe movies or not. You pretty much know what you're going to get walking in. I enjoyed the film overall, but liked it less than the first Avengers or Winter Soldier. The first Avengers movie felt very focused, and I actually liked that a good chunk of the movie was them hanging out in the helicarrier. We got to spend time with the characters, and when we got to the big alien invasion at the end, it felt earned. This movie had a few too many action scenes. I could have done without the opening fight and the Hulk vs Iron Man battle. I would have gladly traded an action scene or two for some more scenes of Vision interacting with the Avengers before the final battle. Still, I had a good time, and it was well worth the $8 ticket price.
