July 11, 2021 11:42 am It is both and has a lot more details. When Nomi Sunrider is now an obscure character, that’s a problem. The entries for big characters like Mara Jade are not great since they’re just so generalized and not that detailed.
July 6, 2021 10:00 pm Well with Star Wars, Wookiepedia has always been more accurate and more in depth than Wikipedia. It has been that way for a very long time.
July 5, 2021 8:07 pm I’m genuinely wondering if Conor missed the big Trial of Magneto announcement back in May. Marvel announced that on May 10th and said the Hellfire Gala would end in a murder and lead into that trial seemingly as a way to get people to pay attention to a party instead of thinking it meant nothing. It’s why I didn’t read it since I was only curious about who would get murdered at the end and once you mentioned how Magneto would always consider Wanda his daughter last week or whenever that was, I figured she was a goner. It made it very difficult for me to care about it honestly once that announcement was made.
June 27, 2021 4:49 pm I appreciated Ryan’s reference to The Replacements to start the show. However, I strongly disagree with him on Greg Park’s run being fantastic let alone good. He has made many bad decisions even though it feels like editorial mandates at this point. Pak is bending over backwards to tie his run into The Rise of Skywalker to justify plot points of that movie where that’s just not acceptable. Implying Snoke was created from Luke’s hand was very stupid along with bringing in Ochi. It would be far better to distance the run from that movie instead of leaning into it so much. Vader knowing about Exegol breaks canon since as a Force ghost, Anakin would have warned Luke about Exegol. It makes the character worse and just isn’t believable when you think it through. I also thought using Sabe in the first arc was a big mistake and an unnecessary thing to do in that time period between ESB and ROTJ. The run has just been a series of bad decisions where the only material anyone has to read that is set between ESB and ROTJ is the Shadows of the Empire novel. I don’t get the decisions that are being made across the board with the comics set between ESB and ROTJ.
June 27, 2021 11:16 am They retconned back in Uncanny Avengers at the end of Remender’s run in 2015 that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were not mutants and they were not Magneto’s and Magda’s children. They were experimented on by the High Evolutionary who thought he failed resulting in them getting their abilities. They are still twins and their parents are Django and Marya Maximoff. That was of course done because of the movies with Fox owning the mutants and Age of Ultron was about to come out. The official reveal was after Age of Ultron came out and it was so blatant where clearly it was an editorial mandate to Remender. I was hoping that would change back with the current X-Men status quo after Disney bought Fox, but I was wrong. It sucks.
June 21, 2021 4:01 pm Tom King in that same interview made fun of Supergirl being angry in so many stories. A dog gets hurt in Tom Taylor’s Nightwing run where the dog gets kicked in his first issue of his run. It is obviously easy to make a villain hated who harms dogs. John Wick anyone? Supergirl got drunk on her 21st birthday and how isn’t she the hero? Supergirl already said she doesn’t kill in the issue. She’s not at rock bottom and anyone getting drunk on their 21st birthday isn’t a horrible person who hit rock bottom if she is on her own at a bar. If you think that, well more power to you. There are people who like being on their own. She defended Rutheye in case you forgot and using the perspective of another character works. That’s not an original idea with stories. I feel like you went in wanting to hate it honestly with those criticisms. Why wouldn’t you give this to children? Superman Smashes the Klan with overt racism is also for children. That happens with many stories.
June 20, 2021 9:01 pm Yeah, people tend to just reference Kara’s death in Crisis on Infinite Earths. The Peter David run was great, but that wasn’t Kara since it was Linda as the Matrix Supergirl and Sterling Gates also had a great run featuring Kara before he was fired and kicked off that comic. I consider Many Happy Returns to be the best Supergirl story which features both Linda and Kara. Kara’s appearance in Christmas with the Super-Heroes #2 is fantastic too. A definitive story that can just be handed to people about Kara doesn’t exist honestly.
June 20, 2021 3:28 pm I also want to add that Tom King said that he actually gave the Supergirl comic to his children compared to his other work. I do agree with you both where reading it, you wouldn’t think it’s by Tom King.
June 20, 2021 3:26 pm I really liked Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 and Tom King said he wanted to do 12 issues, but DC doesn’t trust Supergirl to sell well where he was allowed 8 extended issues instead. He had said it is not a deconstructionist take on the character and it’s much more like Superman: Up in the Sky in tone. He has mentioned it being a western and it being like True Grit. Then the character Rutheye is named after his niece where it’s pronounced Ruth-ee like Ruthie and she said to add the extra e. He said it’s also in continuity compared to his other current work which is interesting. Then he went back to using captions and he wanted a more hopeful comic. I’m very excited for it going forward.
June 19, 2021 3:28 pm Barry doesn’t just go with Superman in the series compared to everyone else who joined. He does question things even though he was part of Superman’s team and you get the great flashback chapter where you see the original Superman costume. Superman helped that kid with his bike and each physical issue had 3 digital chapters. Year One was the longest from that standpoint. From then on, the physical issues had 2 digital chapters for subsequent years. You can either finish Year Three or jump off after Year Three issue 7 which were chapters 13 and 14 and Superman’s wish for what he wanted. Years Four and Five aren’t worth reading. Then jump to the Injustice 2 comics. Year Four was about the Greek gods and Year Five was just setting up the game. Billy and Barry question things a lot in the video game with what has been done. Superman doesn’t appreciate Billy questioning his methods and Lex as Superman’s best friend is interesting for this world.
