January 18, 2012 4:42 pm I'm not sure if I wrote enough about just how good this stuff tastes, either in a cocktail or straight. Junior Johnson is the brand distributed here in Maine, and it's one of the tastiest liquors I've had.

January 18, 2012 12:27 pm Garfield is there because KIDS. LOVE. GARFIELD. Don't ask me why - I don't understand it either.
January 12, 2012 9:21 am Reading that China Miéville will be doing some comics work is the best news I've seen this week. Can't wait to see him work in the field.
January 6, 2012 5:06 pm This book is remaindered and in closeout bins at bookstores and cons all over the place, and it's definitely worth picking up for a couple of bucks. There's some stories that feel like padding, but Snyder's is excellent - as are stories from Tom Bissell (a faux magazine feature on a superhero), David Yoo (a support group for folks with superpowers that aren't too super), Owen King (a superhero short about The Meerkat) and Stephanie Harrell (a Lois Lane tell-all).
January 6, 2012 11:29 am Really dig the Iron Man from Kevin Colden. Proof of how you can get a character across in just a handful of brush strokes.
December 30, 2011 1:18 pm I agree! And I was SO CLOSE to including it, but I wanted to do a list of just stand-alone books and CBC is still just available as issues. Evil Twin just announced that the trade comes out in May, so I hope it will show up on a lot of 2012 lists. http://eviltwincomics.blogspot.com/2011/12/were-very-pleased-to-announce-that-evil.html
December 8, 2011 6:53 pm JH Williams' piece is one of my favorites in the book, for sure. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhw3/5951626666/#/
December 8, 2011 1:15 pm Lovely, lovely art. Thanks for the heads up! Plus, I don't mind an excuse to break out the bourbon and cherries.
September 14, 2011 7:48 pm Great article, and a topic near my heart. I would just tweak one thing - your point early on about hiring talent at the big guys. The big brewers do indeed hire some of the best, most talented young brewers in the world, just like Marvel and DC. Unfortunately, they just force them to brew the same thing that they've always been making. Still, I think the comparison holds. When Marvel and DC hire talented and exciting new guys, it's not for them to create new properties (Icon and Vertigo aside). It's to put them on the characters that have been around as long as Budweiser.
