Moore Takes a Step Too Far

On Sep 24, 2009 3:00 AM

Moore's becoming the new John Byrne.  A guy who once shaped the industry but who no longer occupies the spot of active prominence that he once did.  So now he's content to sit in a belltower and take random shots at whoever comes his way.  Such is life.  He's a hell of a writer though, and I do love to be entertained by his fiction!  His reality, well, that's entertaini...

08.09.2009 - 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra'

On Aug 7, 2009 3:00 AM

My son and I both had a great deal of fun with this movie - it was NOT great cinema, but what reasonable person would expect that from G.I. Joe?  What it was, was two hours of great entertainment!  I had fun, and that's all that I ask from my movies most times.  Also, it had more action that Transformers 2, which made it more entertaining by far in my book.

03.06.2009 - 'Watchmen'

On Mar 5, 2009 4:16 AM

Overall, I felt that the film lacked a strong emotional impact because it tried too hard to preserve too many of the different aspects of the comicbook series.  Ultimately, there's too much in the comic to present it all in a single film, and I think that in order for the film to have had the same emotional resonance as the comic it needed to be significantly adapted and reworked for the ...

The 5 Worst Things about Comics in 2008

On Jan 15, 2009 9:03 AM

I haven't been very excited by many of the major line-wide cross-overs, especially the ones that promise to "change everything."  Usually, "everything" isn't so bad that I want to see it change.  After Infinite Crisis, how many of the One Year Later jumps improved the comics they impacted?  And for those that did have a positive impact, how long did it last?&n...

12.07.2008 - 'Punisher: War Zone'

On Dec 5, 2008 9:00 AM

@Conor - I loved Quantum of Solace, glad to see that it's still doing well during this slow movie time of the year.  Anyone know if Transporter 3 was any good?  I'd say that the box office was about what I would have expected, considering that this is a slow movie time of year, and I've only seen a handful of ads for the Punisher.  I'd guess that the mediocre-to-negative buzz tha...

12.04.2008 - X-Men Noir #1

On Dec 5, 2008 5:49 AM

Actually, those house ads weren't promoting this mini-series in specific, they were promoting the entire Noir mini-series line.  There will be other "Noir" minis coming for Spider-Man and Daredevil.

"It’s happened before. It’ll happen again."

On Dec 3, 2008 9:00 AM

Great article, thanks!  It actually brings forward a comparison that's been in the back of my mind, between the current Captain America series and Morrison's Batman run.  Brubaker's entire story in Cap so far (since issue #1) has been about the death and replacement of Captain America, just as Morrison's entire Batman run has been building to this moment.  The difference is that...

Continuity, Keep Your Universe to Yourself

On Nov 10, 2008 11:45 AM

With all of the crossovers being put out these days I think that the shoddy continuity is nothing less than disrespect for the readers.  But I'm only looking at continuity in the short-term sense.  In movies and TV shows you have continuity cops who make sure that objects stay in the same place from scene to scene, and that transitions provide the viewer with a smooth progression rat...

06.25.2008 - Final Crisis #2

On Jun 25, 2008 6:48 PM

This issue was well written (as was issue #1) and the art was amazing.  With that said, it wasn't a fun read, and I find it hard to think of this as being the final installment in the DC "Crisis" franchise.  This story has NOTHING in common with CoIE and IC.  It's heavy, and totally obscure in the story that's being delivered.  I can't imagine it hooking very many ...
