New Comics for 05.22.2013 definitely knows who WOULDN’T be in the gang
May 20, 2013 10:32 pm Man, it's gonna be a tough week for me. Only three books, but all three are usually strong POTW contenders for me.
ALL-STAR WESTERN #20
DAREDEVIL #26
YOUNG AVENGERS #5
BQ: The cool customer/con man. Not the guy who puts the plan together mind you, but the buddy who keeps everyone together until the job is done.
P.S. Was I the only one who read Iron Man #10 last week? Because seriously, Howard Stark can pull together a hell of a heist gang!

Get Some Indie In Me
May 20, 2013 1:09 pm Fatale has been fun, especially the last three standalones. They really captured the feel of classic weird fiction. Ennis' Battlefield books have been good. Kieron Gillen's Über had a great start out of the gate and at only one issue in, it's easy to jump on to. I've heard good things about Outlaw Territory which should be hitting Previews soon.

IRON MAN #10
May 15, 2013 3:45 pm There's enough info in 10 to easily jump in and I only hopped on at issue 9. On top of that, issue 10 was a ton of fun.

Comics As A Hobby
May 15, 2013 2:35 pm Back when I first started reading comics, I would definitely have classified myself as a collector. With digital not even an idea and trades being terribly uncommon, the only way you could read an older run was either through reprints like Marvel Tales or back issues. Nowadays, I'd define myself as a reader.

New Comics for 05.15.2013 has a mom who paints
May 13, 2013 10:41 pm Average week for me, numbers wise.
DREAM THIEF #1
FATALE #14
IRON MAN #10
THE TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #91
Figure I'll check Dream Thief out, it looks fairly interesting. I'm in on Fatale for the long haul. As long as Eaglesham is on board for Iron Man, so am I. Things are getting a little dicey on Transformers. Wildman's art isn't quite as good as it used to be.
BQ: My mom got me hooked on science fiction and fantasy. We've seen almost every Star Trek film, first run, in the theater together.

Is “Batman” Dumb?
May 13, 2013 12:28 pm The conceit for the last few years, at least for Batman's villains was that they didn't particularly care WHO was behind the mask. They were only interested in him while he was wearing the mask.

DC Histories: Secret Society of Super-Villains
May 8, 2013 10:33 pm @IthoSapien I always liked how Marvel handled it with Tomb of Dracula, where while the focus was on Dracula he was clearly the villain. That enabled them to have a good guy you could root for, while not taking away the edge that made Dracula interesting.

DC Histories: Secret Society of Super-Villains
May 8, 2013 4:23 pm "For some reason, series with villains as the main characters don’t seem to last long generally (Joker’s solo series only lasted 9 issues. The Joker, 9 issues!)."
Unless I'm terribly mistaken, and someone feel free to correct me, but a lot of the villain books came out in the Seventies during the Bronze Age when the Comics Code or at least elements were still in place. Because of this, the bad guys couldn't win ("Good ALWAYS triumphs!") and a book where your protagonist is always losing is a hard sell.
