May 23, 2012 2:49 pm Man, that's a great question. Hmm. I want to put Azzarello's SPACEMAN in there because it's in the same realm of otherworldliness of TRANSMETROPOLITAN, which is to say out there, but not too out there when you get down to it. Same for several other Ellis projects like DESOLATION JONES and ORBITER. Y THE LAST MAN certainly fits the profile. I'm almost tempted to put SWEET TOOTH in there too.
May 23, 2012 2:42 pm Is it fair to say, "Too early to tell"? I'd need to read another issue or two to say yes or no. I will say that it's a substantial read, this first issue. It's not something you fly through. For that part it's worth reading in issues. Oh and I neglected to mention the back-matter. There's some transcript/journally stuff from Captain Israel and some annotated maps and things. The good, quality bonus features you hope for in these situations.
May 23, 2012 2:16 pm This is not new information! Also, it's not like I hate it or anything!
May 23, 2012 2:12 pm Not a fan of the source material, but I'm definitely excited about the care with which DC Animation is approaching this one. Splitting it up like this is very smart. Hopefully it will perform well enough that more adaptations will receive the same kind of treatment.
May 23, 2012 1:57 pm Image is indeed killing it, but this is actually a Dark Horse title.
May 23, 2012 1:56 pm Haha, we'll never know. Though the late great egomaniac was likely talking about "sic-fi monster horror." The Massive doesn't quite fit those parameters.
May 22, 2012 3:52 pm Great year for SF. Prophet, Saga, Planetoid, Spaceman, Manhattan Projects. Planet of the Apes. I'd include Secret Avengers too. Looking forward, DnA's Hypernaturals has potential.
May 21, 2012 8:11 pm Glad to be of help.
May 21, 2012 4:53 pm Lemire talks a little about this on the Don't Miss show. It's apparently a new take on the character.
