Name: Andy Engel

Bio: I'm currently a student in Oregon.  Got my start in comics after watching the second X-Men movie.  I'm a big X-Men fan, but aside from that, I actually read very few straight-up superhero books.  I'm much more into things like Walking Dead, Criminal, DMZ, and Echo.

November 1, 2010 12:56 am I'll be honest, I was a little nervous, as I thought the trailers looked slightly questionable - not sure what it was about them.  Instead, I feel like the pacing and atmosphere were absolutely perfect.  All in all, I was blown away and can't wait for next Sunday.  I know a couple friends who watched without having read the comics (or any comics for that matter), but I haven't talked to them about it yet.

No Hero, Warren Ellis.  The art is spectualar(ly disturbing) and the plot is engrossing.  Only thing is, the 7-issue run isn't complete yet.  but, REALLY REALLY GOOD.

In case you don't know, it involves understanding the psyche of people who would become superheroes if it meant taking hallucinogens that would forever change you, and what it means to be the one who holds the secret of that drug; what it means to replace heroes, people, as they're knocked off by someone who knows far too much about their physiology..

Nice review: short, and did it's job :)

You actually pretty much captured how I felt about this issue, so I'll refrain from posting my own.  Good job!

February 8, 2009 1:49 am Great article Sonia!  As a relative newcomer, I don't necessarily have quite the same weight on my shoulders (I only probably average 2-5 books a week, depending on how a month spaces out).  But I totally agree with your approach.  I spent an entire month back home away from school and my comic shop during winter break.  When I got back, I had a month-stack to read through, as well as new stuff coming in on Wednesdays.  Granted, the stack was probably only around 15-20 books, but for me that was a ton and it really made me a lot more critical of certain books that I kept putting off reading once I got back.  I have found myself picking up a book or two because everyone else was talking about it, and though I don't buy a lot yet, I'm definitely in danger of inflating my pull list just because of books that I continually hear I "should" be reading.  I finally exercised some self-restraint and actually dropped Northlanders after 3 issues.  It was good, but it just didn't blow me away and I realized there was no point in shelling out the money if I wasn't pumped to read it when it came out - I can always pick up a trade if a particular arc is really good (though, I have to admit, this is much easier with something like Northlanders which seems to have totally individual storylines in each arc).  Anyway, really nice article!
February 3, 2009 1:29 pm Well, the little I know about Kuhoric is that he's currently writing Army of Darkness for Dynamite, but that's about all I know (though I think he's done a pretty good job with what I've read of those).

Small week, two books.  Looking forward to Deadpool, but VERY EXCITED for Dead Irons!!  I hope it's as good as it sounds.
