August 16, 2012 7:06 am I clearly just don't get it. I put the book on my 'buy a month later for $1.99 because it's not that great' list after the 4th issue. The art is excellent and the letter column is generally amusing but the story and concepts fall flat for me.
July 23, 2012 8:40 am Personally thought it was great (although I still place TDK above it simply because of Ledger) and I can't see most of the minor gripes that the guys had. Saw it in IMAX and I had no problem with Bane's voice, it sounded like he was where he was supposed to be and everything he said was clear (in fact I think the voice inflection choice really made Bane stand out and more chilling), Bale's Bruce Wayne and Batman were both excellent (I would have liked a little bit more Batman but that's about it) and the New York thing I didn't notice. I thought the difference in tone was a good choice from Nolan and co, it gives it it's own identity whilst stilling providing the perfect closing to the trilogy that they setup. It was an escalation as Dark Knight was over Batman Begins and literally the only disappointing thing is that Nolan's Batman is now done.
July 17, 2012 4:05 am I grew up as a Spidey nut and the first Raimi film was probably bar Batman Begins the most excited I've ever been for a film. Loved it then, still love it now - Spider-Man 2 was even better. Couldn't care less about this one, haven't made any effort to see it in the cinema probably won't bother with it when it comes out on DVD. Firstly, Marvel has been slowly killing my interest in Spidey with their handling of him since OMD but the actual conceit of the film itself suffered from too many black marks against it... Way to early for a reboot (especially given the fact that Raimi got a bit screwed over with Spidey 3 by the studios/producers getting him to insert Venom into the story - he should have had a chance to redeem it with Spidey 4), bad casting (Garfield is too cool for PP, Peter is a geek/nerd not an edgy outsider), bad villian choice (especially considering it was CG - Spidey 3 was hampered by the dumb CG creations), wrong tone in the trailers (it's Spider-Man not Batman FFS), generally poor critical reception and the dumb 'x-treme' Spidey suit.
July 4, 2012 4:22 am What's 'complex and groundbreaking' about Daredevil? Or Animal Man? Or Batwoman? It's just good quality comics. Batman happens to be better quality comics. Hence some of the disbelief.
July 3, 2012 11:19 am No Batman, Snyder or Capullo? Nonsense.
April 24, 2012 5:07 am @comicBOOKchris The reason the 'he's a nobody' argument keeps coming up is because he's tried to make himself in a martyr with all this nonsense, as someone else said he clearly came out and proclaimed he was leaving on twitter because he was looking for admiration which as I've said previously is rather egotistical. He's got his principles, good for him, but don't come out and announce you're no longer working for DC because they're not ethical. Who's he to try and define whether DC are ethical or not?
April 23, 2012 12:56 pm Can't say I have too much sympathy with Roberson, in actual fact he strikes me as a bit egotistical to say the least. Will DC honestly notice that he's gone? Outside of iZombie which has just been cancelled, a mediocre run on Superman which did nothing to improve on JMS's misfire and an arc on Fairest what are they missing out on? As for getting sniffy over Before Watchmen because of the ethics involved, give me a break. Moore and Gibbons signed stupid contracts, DC are hardly going to shoot themselves in the foot commercially because two creators were too naive to realise the potential of the characters they were writing. Can you see any big cooperation forgoing profits because a employee made a mistake 20-30 years ago? I can't Personally I'm really looking forward to Before Watchmen because although the original is clearly very good it's not sacrosanct and the story itself reads rather dated now. DC are being respectful by only allowing the best creators to work on the characters and the characters clearly deserve more quality stories told about them.
April 12, 2012 4:50 am Seriously hope that this issue is better than the first - if not it's for the chop as far as I am concerned. That first issue was the most over-hyped comic issue I've seen in a long time for something that was average at best (outside of the art which was very good).
April 5, 2012 5:52 am Bit of a nonsensical list considering some of the obvious candidates that have missed out. Also, seems a rather arbitrary list of people who are responsible for the nominations - seems to lack a bit of credibility.
March 19, 2012 6:34 am I don't think they were part of the story, just needless gratuity in a couple of place that didn't really serve the story at all. At least Ellis has the good graces to not try to intellectualise his sonic bowel disruptor.
