Name: John Pavlich

Bio: I am a writer/director/actor/podcaster. I was born in Long Beach, California but I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I am declared by the State of Texas as Legally Blind. I went to Junior College back in 1999 to major in film. I dropped out after two months for personal reasons, but mainly because it was too much like high school and I was told I had to be a student for a year and a half before I could take the class I really wanted: Screenwriting. After that, I lived in Denton for nearly three years, where I was the co-founder of UFO (Underground Film Organization) for the University of North Texas. This was a venue for students to showcase their film work and gain interest from classmates for other projects. In that time, I was able to put together a Halloween screening of Night Of The Creeps, as well as a Coen Brothers film appreciation event, wherein nightly screenings of their work ran for a whole week, from Blood Simple to The Big Lebowski. I was a co-writer and cinematographer for an independent film, which due to production complications I was not involved in, the project was eventually dropped halfway through shooting. I am currently running a film commentary and discussion podcast called Sofa Dogs (http://www.sofadogs.libsyn.com), as well as a pop culture and entertainment news podcast called Couch Surfing. I am also trying to start an independently produced graphic novel, but I'm in desperate need of an artist. The story is similar in both ideas and tone to Mike Mignola's Hellboy, Kevin Smith's Dogma and Joss Whedon's Angel. If anyone out there is interested in a project like that (and can draw), please contact me. Artists I currently like are Fabio Moon, John Bolton and Cliff Richards.

I had not watched Smallville in years, but I found this fun and entertaining. To those of you who felt that Clark was under used in the episode, it's a valid complaint but may have a lot to do with the fact that Tom Welling directed the second hour. I thought he did a great job. That bullet time-style fight scene was particularly stellar. Though I'm not a big DC guy, there were still many aspects that I recognized and enjoyed as DC porn, mostly thanks to the early animated works of Bruce Timm. :)

One final thought: I really enjoyed the score for this episode. Though I like Mark Snow, I never thought his music really fit with the look and feel of Smallville, but I like this new composer. Also, though I haven't watched Smallville in ages, I've always felt that the show has been consistently gorgeous to look at. The cool, blue/silver look during the Icicle scenes especially reminded me of my favorite cinematographer, Adam Greenberg, specifically his work on T2.

@conor @Hawkboy Human Target is a Canadian production, which is why we get not only a lot of BSG actors showing up, but also BSG's effects team Zoic (Firefly, T:TSCC, Wonderfalls, Serenity) and composer, Bear McCreary (T:TSCC, Eureka). Also of note, Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) and McG (Chuck, Charlie's Angels) are both producers for the show (West having also directed the pilot), which I think brings a lot of the humor and charm that will hopefully make this show continually successful.

Not a big fan either of the constant time shifts. Personally, I think Wednesday nights would be a good spot for it (before or after Glee, depending on that show's time slot when it returns in April). If not that, then it would make a good double bill with 24. 10 million viewers is very satisfactory, and as long as they don't put it anywhere on or near Dollhouse's old slot (one ep left to go!), I think it has the potential to maintain those numbers, if not expand on them!

@ohcaroline - It wasn't what I intended. I really was just saying, "Um". I sometimes say it out loud before a sentence because I'm thinking. It's like when a computer makes that quiet, playing-card-in-spokes noise because it's processing information. :)

@jimski - Apology accepted. Misunderstandings do happen. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. To bring things away from all my idiosyncrasies and back on topic: What are your thoughts on the possibilities of a second season for Dollhouse?

Personally, I feel the same way about it that I do with Terminator. The season ended on a really interesting note, ripe with possibilities to take things in fascinating and captivating directions, so while renewal doesn't seem likely, I try to remain optimistic.

@ohcaroline - Yeah, I totally get that. The Inside is one of the most dark and disturbing television shows I've seen. It's like Se7en: The Series. I dig it, but it's an aquired taste. Perhaps Drive would be more fitting? It's got Nathan Fillion, and who doesn't love that guy? :)

@Anson17 - Why encourage this? Next thing you know, I'll be dismissed for using the word, "Dude". I mean seriously, I'm cast aside as someone to be ignored because I decided to type two letters? I'm sorry. I thought iFanboy was a place where people could express themselves openly and honestly within friendly discussions about comics and other forms of popular culture. I didn't realize I had to go over my text with a fine-toothed comb.

I like it here, and I often recommend this site to others who want to talk comics and the like without fear of judgement or snobbery. I even link to iFanboy often at Whedonesque. I guess I'm just not articulate enough to hang with the in crowd. My apologies. My "ums" and I will be on our way.

Thanks a lot, jimski. Thanks for making me feel this small, when all I wanted to do was share an opinion/suggestion about a writer I admired.

@ohcaroline - Fair enough. I was just making sure. Joss and Tim's writing feels extremely similar to me, so liking one and not the other doesn't make much sense, but to each their own. If it's not your bag, then so be it.

@jimski - Well, excuse me for fucking breathing. Sheesh.

@ohcaroline - Um, Tim Minear wrote Out Of Gas, not to mention he worked on Wonderfalls. Also, I recommend meeting and talking to the man about his work. You'd see how bright and creative he is. Witness exhibit A: http://www.sofadogs.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=443489
