DC Comings & Goings: Palmiotti, Gray & Igle on THE RAY; Rozum Off STATIC SHOCK, Krul Off GREEN ARROW
September 21, 2011 5:12 pm James Patrick and Augustin Padilla did the last couple of issues of Green Arrow before the reboot. Can we get them back? Those two issues engaged me far more than any of the previous J.T. Krul issues.

REVIEWS: DC Comics 52 Pick-Up – Week One
September 8, 2011 9:26 pm I'm the same on Tony Daniel as writer vs artist.
Why does he have a panel with Batman's interior monologue that says "Chopper blades. Loud. Right outside." only to be followed by a panel of a helicopter right outside making a loud noise. That same panel has the pointless monologue "Found Me." as if we couldn't tell from the art and the helicopter shooting at him.
The opening monologue took me out of the book and had me laughing:
"His modus operandi changes with the wind..."
"...and it's been windy in Gotham City."
As if Joker is literally behaving differently because the wind is blowing through Gotham City. I imagine Joker setting up weather monitoring stations all over Gotham and making decisions based on the latest readings.

Molly’s Top 10 Dream Comic Book Cosplays
September 8, 2011 1:36 pm Ghost Fox Killer is part of the Great Ten, sort of like China's Justice League. Tony Bedard wrote a pretty good mini series called The Great Ten that spent an issue on each member.

Top 5: Comic Book Marriages
April 5, 2011 9:05 pm How about Buddy Baker (Animal Man) and his wife Ellen? Their marriage is portrayed as more than just romantic. It often captures the jealousy (Starfire's friendship with Buddy) and practical (He worries about getting better health insurance for his family) aspects. He's always impressed me because his family is often top of mind when he's trying to save the planet from some menace.

“Hands-Off” Characters
December 6, 2010 7:51 pm Gerber owns two characters for me, Howard and Dr. Fate. I was crushed when he died in the middle of his Dr. Fate mini. He had a great handle on how magic should work, and a dark sense of humor with the way he wove in symbolism from psychologists like Jung and Freud. Other writers on Dr. Fate feel flat compared to Gerber's characterization.

Common Spider-Sense
November 5, 2010 8:55 pm I've been reading ASM for a couple years and really liked the Rhino story but the Lizard story is the one that has really stuck with me. The art does such a great job conveying lizard's character and motivation. The darkness and intensity of the character might fit better in Batman though.

War Is Hell. The Books Are Heaven.
September 3, 2010 3:43 pm OttoBott speaks the truth about Blazing Combat. The artwork is fantastic. It also spans combat from different eras, the Revolutionary war to Vietnam.

Graphic Novel Review: Unknown Soldier Vol. 2: Easy Kill
March 31, 2010 2:34 pm Unknown Soldier goes to the top of my pile every time it comes out. Each issue has a page or a panel that just knocks me on my butt and drives home some new understanding of the characters or their situation.
