October 14, 2011 1:36 pm I've come to a similar realization via the new 52, but in a different way. I'm going the new 52 all digitally. So, no longer "must" I get all of my books on Wednesday lest I risk a paper chase to find a copy of some issue that turned out to be hot. Nope...with digital, it's always there and I can read it when I feel like it. Or I can do something else because I don't have to worry about a sell out. So...the only things of the new 52 that I've read are the things where I feel compelled by the hotness of the creative team or compelled by the buzz the comic is getting. So, Snyder's Batman is a "download it on Wednesday", but most other things I can read some other time. Thus, it's on the publisher and the creators to step it up. And, the cool thing is that I'm reading the comic material that I want to read. Old back issues that I never could find time for before are getting read. OGNs are getting read. Digital is very liberating.
October 7, 2011 3:28 pm Here's my thing with cos-players.... It's a free country and I'd defend to the death their right to do it. BUT, I think they do the comic hobby a tremendous disservice because the public image of comics is (a) The Comic Guy from the Simpsons, (b) those dorky guys on The Big Bang Theory and (c) some fat dude dressed up as Slave Leia. That's just not helpful if we'd like to bring more people into our hobby. Again...it's a free country and people can engage in whatever behavior they want, but I'd love it if male cosplay was reduced to almost nothing and we instituted a BMI-based system for allowing female cosplay.
September 26, 2011 3:03 pm I love digital comics and am so glad to see them FINALLY getting their act together. I don't have anything against paper comics and there are a few titles I still want paper because I actually enjoy owning the comics in a collection, but for the most part.....these comics are just junking up my life after I read them. Given the choice between taking the comics to goodwill just to get them out of the house and keeping them digitally in the cloud, I'd prefer the latter.
May 11, 2011 9:37 pm I always thought the complaining about the price was a little imprecise.  The true issue is whether we are getting appropriate VALUE for our money.  That's a personal judgement that each fan has to make themselves because there is nothing magical about any of these prices.  It was an interesting experiement by DC to see if they could produce the same quality (although 2 pages shorter) at a lower price and see if that increased fans' value perception.

I really tried a bunch of new DC titles (for me) because they were cheaper and now, 6 months later I'm actually reading less DC than I was before because I haven't kept ANY of the titles I sampled and dropped a few that I was previously enjoying like Batman & Robin.

The other thing that would be useful to see is how the pricing change has affected single title's sales.  Is Batman & Robin up or down with the price change?  I know they all trend downwards, but is the delta less than a $3.99 Marvel book.

My perception is that at this time, Marvel has continued to pump out even more titles onto the market while DC has cut back a little bit.  I'd bet this is due to some more macro-level competitive forces.
February 1, 2011 6:01 pm It'd be good if Tony posted which pages were missing.  That way if the originals turn up, everyone will know what happened.
October 18, 2010 1:05 pm Well said....  The amount of venom for the "companies" is always distrubing for me.

Just to put this in context, I review comics for Weekly Comic Book Review (not a plug....just putting in context)......

What bothered me about Bendis' twitter feed was that I think he did exactly what is bothering him about blogging reviewers.  Namely it annoys him (and annoys me too) when we see reviews that are nothing but drive by shootings that don't say "why" something was good or not.  So, how has he responded?  By giving a similar "drive by shooting" of the blogging reviewer.  It's just not productive.

I honestly wish Bendis would take 30 minutes and write up a short piece about how he thinks online reviewers could improve their craft.  I'd read it.
