In a way, I’m glad that the stand-alone Wolverine title is one of the least read books that feature Wolverine….

I want to start by saying that this was a fine standalone X-Men book. However, this book is titled “Schism”…

May 24, 2013 1:55 pm I thought Hal Jordan's last spoken lines to Sinestro were the panels of the week. Was that last week? Very powerful, thought for sure it would be here.
May 22, 2013 3:16 pm That was kind of the point I was trying to get at. Origin stories are continually invalidating themselves with characters not aging at all. So many of our favorite characters were developed and became popular in response to wars and political backdrops. If DC had been smart, they would've stuck to their guns with the relaunch into a new timeline and crafted a true blank slate. But it's the fanboys of the world who scream for continuity in the face of the eternally 28-35 year-old heroes we read about.
May 22, 2013 1:22 pm Origin stories are pointless because characters don't age. Comic creators have fully embraced this - only Hollywood is hung up on giving 45 minutes to set the stage for the character. Proof that origin stories don't matter? All New X-Men. It's a great book - but no matter how you slice it, these characters have been around for 50 - 60 years, and the younger versions of themselves are still seeing 30 year old virile versions of themselves in the future. I've accepted that this is what comic storytelling has resorted to. But it makes me appreciate stories and characters that are allowed to age just that much more. For example, check out the Star Wars novels that have been written in the past 20-30 years. Luke Skywalker is old now in that timeline. And because of that, we see a more developed character - and we don't have to retcon every damn thing....yet (movie shenanigans pending). Jupiter's Legacy was a great #1 book in part because we see aging heroes, and it shows how absurd 'continuity' is with the Big Two. There can't be continuity if heroes just simply don't age. And if you buy into that premise, origin stories should just be left alone to allow for great writing that doesn't want to be hampered by burdensome tethers to origins.
January 20, 2012 5:16 pm New Avengers is the only Avengers title I buy. It never lets me down.
September 7, 2011 8:13 pm I'm still going to have to put Detective Comics up as POTW. Classic Batman story with a thunder-punch to your balls ending, has to be the top pick for me.
August 31, 2011 11:03 am C'mon, the Ninja Turtles had some awesome rides back in the day. I know, I collected a great deal of them.
July 19, 2011 10:41 am Only 3 books this week.  I'm going with Uncanny X-Men, Flashpoint Wonder Woman and Superman Batman (I know that I'm the only person that probably reads that title.  But I'm looking forward to a light week.
June 29, 2011 10:04 pm @LENNYSERNA  I know right?  I can't believe how bad the last story arc looked now that I compare it to this book.  It's literally night and day.  Wolverine stole the show with excellent artwork here.  I can't wait to see this guy draw Colossus and maybe Beast.  Hell, even Namor could look cool if this guy was drawing him.  When Schism comes out, it better look more like this than that last couple of months we had to wade through.
