May 16, 2011 6:03 pm It was quite amazing how Rachel's appearance in last week's issue instantly brought me a sense of nostalgia. It was such a nice moment for Scott to see his "other" child after what happened with Cable. They really did drop the ball with Scott realizing his brother had been missing for two years at last.
May 11, 2011 7:10 pm I was there when Vindicator was introduced in X-men 109, and I haven't missed an issue of the flight yet. And there have been some truly horrible ones, including the whole last two series. This team was created around the Guardian, Sasquatch, Snowbird, Aurora, Northstar, Shaman core, and Puck and Marrina to some extent. Byrne's take is still the defining one, but it caused the team's underlying problem as well: isolationism. There's only so many Canada-centric stories readers will be interested in. and this mini, while it looks great, still can't escape that pitfall. If it's going to make it as an ongoing, it needs to be broader in scope.
May 11, 2011 6:54 pm Here's an observation: Marvel puts out twice as many books as DC does, so they are going to sell more books, and their market share is skewed towards x-titles and avengers minis that hardcore fans are going to buy at that 3.99 price. I was dropping ten titles this winter, and the price break for me meant that most of the dropped titles came from M arnel and I kept the lower priced DC's. So from that viewpoint, DC held onto my readership for marginal titles while Marvel lost twenty bucks a month. I never thought the day would come when I said DC's quality and writing were trumping Marvel's, but I'm saying it now.
May 11, 2011 5:37 pm Those picking up this book for Nate Grey are missing the MUCH more important part of the story, namely that Cyclops and the X-Men as an entity have at long last realized that Magik is a potentially unbeatable foe with intelligence and strategies that they didn't realize she was capable of devising, and that her scruples do not preclude her from sacrificing any or all of them if she feels the need.

This revelation has the makings of a great conflict down the road, and I hope the new team doesn't forget about it as they go on.
