TheApeThatEscaped
Name: Jason Jackson
Bio: Have been reading comics since the mid-seventies. Started with the UK 'funnies' - the Buster, Whizzer & Chips, etc and worked my way up to Battle Action and 2000AD. My first American comic book experiences (beyond the UK black & white reprints of the Incredible Hulk and X-Men) was Ghosts issue 100, something featuring the Man-Thing and a Marvel Tales reprint of Spiderman 158. Have always preferred crime and horror comics to superhero ones, but have always had a soft spot for Batman and Spiderman. I took a break from comics in the 90's, but was tempted back by a work colleague who leant me a couple of graphic novels back in 2007. Now I'm buying more comics than ever! iFanboy has definitely helped me finding where it's at. Favourite comic books are currently Hellblazer (still going after all these years! yeah!),Hellboy, BPRD, Jonah Hex (Weird Western), Detective Comics/Batman, Scalped and a one or two others, when the budget allows.

This wasn't on my pull list, but one look at the art and I was hooked. The story was good for a first ish. Reminded me of Jersey Gods just a smidgen. It's good to read a comic book that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Then I went and read Scalped, which sucked out most of the warm n fuzzy. Like eating a goey cream cake followed by a triple espresso with a couple of shots of scotch. I like!
Yes, it's all twue.
Also Alan Moore is doing a couple of live readings/performances of 'Unearthing' in an old railway tunnel beneath Waterloo Station in London on 29 and 30 July. Music will be performed by Crook & Flail (Andrew Broder and DoseOne) apparently.
Yes, Alan Moore has a sense of humour, SHOCK!
There's another interview with Mr Moore in this week's NME which uses a quote from the bearded one as the heading: "I AM A WIZARD AND I KNOW THE FUTURE"! (The article doesn't appear to be online, but there's a scan of the page here: http://www.nme.com/magazine - just scroll down a bit)...
The reason he's in the New Musical Express is due ta music related project called 'Unearthing' (based on the novella) which is being released on hip hop label Lex this week. According to the article it's "a two-hour long monologue spread across two CDs and soundtracked by musicians including Mike Patton, Adam 'Doseone' Drucker and Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite... it's part fantasy and part biographical sketch, a dense piece of prose poetry concerning the life of an old comics acquaintance, Steve Moore... and his strange and seemingly sexual relationship with an imaginary Greek moon goddess." Check out the preview film on the Lex website: http://lexrecords.com/2010/06/unearthing-live-preview/
Is anyone else digging Dodgem Logic? At last a magazine you can really sink your teeth into! What's not to like.
Aww nooo! Sorry you're leaving, but congratulations on the new slot. Good luck with that. I shall certainly be 'tuning in'.
Marmite lovers of the world unite!
All the best
My sentiments exactly! I was about to give up on this book, but now I just can't wait to read the next issue. Very nearly my pick of the week (Locke & Key beat it by a wispy whisker).
Good week - some pulls I can't wait to get my hands on and my eyes glued to - Scalped, Hellboy, BPRD, Godland. Some I'm pulling almost through habit (BN Batman, GLC - they're good, but enough of the dead guys already, & Red Robin). And some new books on the block I might just check out (The Anchor, oh and some new thing called 'Web of Spiderman' whatever that's all about?)...
Pants! Just realised I'm away in the sticks on Comic Book Day, so I won't get to pick up my books until next Tuesday! To use that well worn phrase of yore: "ARRGH!" (is it spelt with one or two 'R's?)
