November 22, 2016 4:40 am Im glad Im not the only one who thought of Captain Marvel Jr. I know it was supposed to have inspired all of Elvis' capes, but I wasn't aware it reached the hair.
August 5, 2013 2:39 am I wanted to like this movie much more than I actually did. I found the background art to be truly breathtaking, but I also hated the character models that had at least half the characters to be gigantic to the point of DCs Blockbuster character. Characters like Flash, Reverse Flash, and Aquaman should have been more sleek and and tapered not muscle bound goons. As far as the story, it was far too short to encompass all of Flashpoint...too much of the story, required explanations with no time given to address them. I feel like the only reason I understood the movie myself was having read the event.
July 17, 2013 8:00 am I didnt mind the new take on Pyg, especially since we can't have the authentic take on him from the comics. He's not so vital a character that I feel betrayed by this. I'm really excited to see a bit of a different direction with the hints toward Metamorpho, Katana (Batman and the Outsiders?).... and Mister Terrific. I dont mind most of the animation style here either. We didnt care for it at the beginning of Green Lantern but it grew on most of us. What I really took exception at was the take on Alfred...Ive seen it described as....interesting. I can see that this Batman is exploring different takes but there's something about Alfred being more of an influence on Bruce to be normal. He needs to be Bruce's anchor/tether to the Wayne side. I know he has the history even in comics of having British Intelligence in his history, but this took it too far. I'd rather not have the aggressive Aussie Alfred here. Otherwise I'm all about exploring the lesser known heroes and villains. Keep Joker, Two Face, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Harley out of it as long as possible. Use Penguin and Riddler sparingly... I want to see the more fringe characters explored here for the duration of the series.
July 12, 2013 1:01 pm Just thank goodness it isn't the Lego Scarlet Witch saying "No More Legos" ;)
June 6, 2013 10:26 am The last page here is truly a beautiful page... Hoping to see it in this week's Best in the Week of Panels column!
June 1, 2013 9:38 am So Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor broke up and Steve got the Invisible Plane? ;)
May 30, 2013 9:41 pm Visually, the shield with the air lines on either side of it.... There's a lot there that kinda reminds me of the cover of Man of Steel #1 with the Shield popping out of Clark's dress shirt. Obviously this issue was about 12-15 years prior, but it does look to me like the artist was trying to suggest that open shirt given the shape we see behind the Superman logo.
May 29, 2013 10:47 pm **Spoiler Warning** I'm thinking it only looks that way. What the doctor had to her head looked more like an medical injection gun like what they used when I was in the military.... carries a dose of something on a thin quick burst of air. That being said, that was a big pool of blood, but I'm leaning toward something along the lines of nanites?
May 21, 2013 12:31 pm I haven't seen the movie yet but am hoping to in the next couple days. Its hard when those movies fail to live up to our expectations. I have known since the "reboot" that these movies...ALL of Star Trek really...would never again be what I wanted them to be. The reboot movie was fantastic and I loved it....and I expect I'll love this one as well... BUT... Its never going to be the regular television series we want it to be...It's always going to have the shadow of a gimmick hanging over it. Further, most of the series we followed after the original: Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager. All those are by necessity not just slightly different but drastically different in whatever continuity goes forth from here. My guess is we'll never see those series done in this new continuity format, and I'll have to be okay with that. I hate to be the guy who says, they ruined my Comic, my TV Show, my Movie, whatever. I'm always the guy who will say you can go back to the back issue bins and read those. Abrams hasn't done anything different to Star Trek then what DC did with the Crisis on Infinite Earths (or New 52 for that matter). However I'm having a completely different reaction to this then what I have when continuity's gotten revamped in the comics. Maybe thats because with those comics we get more than 3-6 two hour movies for follow up...we get a universe fully expanded. Please don't misunderstand, I really do enjoy the Abrams movies for what they are. Im going to have fun with this movie the same as I did the last. But there's something more than just a little hollow to it.
April 26, 2013 8:28 pm This ish was a bit of a clunker for me. The change-off in art was a bit off-putting and the dialogue on the first page was particularly painful and unfortunately set the tone for me for the rest of the issue. The entire time two characters are discussing where a third one has gone and they repeat the guy's name in every single panel, never changing to saying "he". It was really jarring for me. The Die Hard theme of the book should have been a fun one but by that time I just didnt care so much. Ive typically enjoyed MOST of the issues so I'm not ready to drop yet.
