Before this issue (outside of 52) I have never read an Animal Man comic. Not even the Grant Morrison run,…

September 9, 2012 4:35 am No, I'm with captaincold as well. I dug this issue. Now, GA is my favorite hero in the old DC Universe. His characterization and stories are some of my favorite. Year One, Dennis O'Neil's run, Grell, and the Smith/Meltzer/Winick run are hands down some of the best GA stories on the planet. (Spoilers for issue 0 mentioned next) The new 52 Ollie is nothing but the Smallville Ollie, and took away everything I loved from the old GA. I was heartbroken when I read GA #1 all those months back. But this issue, though not great (really, Iron Eagle?) was a huge step-up thus far. It really made me feel like Ollie has this giant weight on his shoulder from the deaths of all those people. He's doing what he needs to do because of his guilt. It made me feel for the character. Now, this really hasn't resonated during the first 6 issues (I bailed after that but came back because of Winick in this issue), but hopefully the upcoming JLA and future issues will make this Ollie a little more likeable or maybe bring traces of the old Ollie back. Old GA will always be my favorite, but hopefully I learn to love this GA as well.
September 4, 2012 3:44 pm For this week it's Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Earth 2, Phantom Stranger, and Green Arrow solely for the fact that Winick is writing him for one issue. Also picking up the third Batman: Knightfall trade, Aquaman vol 1, and Teen Titans vol 1 (I like the new take on the series). BQ: Lots of reading for classes.
August 26, 2012 5:09 pm They battle for the last Choco cookie. :P
August 26, 2012 5:08 pm "This just in! Teen Titans being changed to Justice League University!"
August 26, 2012 5:07 pm hahaha *While Crying* "I'll show that bitch...! I thought what we had was SPECIAL!!!"
August 26, 2012 5:07 pm You know, I'm genuinely excited for this book. *J'onn's front and center, which is something we really never get to see even in the old DCU. *Green Arrow's going to written well for a change (well, at least since Winick left the book. Or at least J.T. Krul before Flashpoint) and we might see some of those old left/right debates from Green Arrow and Hawkman (though I'm not sure how Hawkman acts anymore, since I never picked up the book). *Catwoman seems an interesting choice. I mean, back when she was solicited to be in Batman and the Outsiders, she was there for maybe three issues and then left, so it may be that kind of situation. *Stargirl is back! Woo! *Katanna is always badass to have on a team. *I could take or leave Vibe, but let's see what Johns brings to him. *No nothing about the new GL yet, but I hope he turns into a Damian situation where everyone hates him, but then likes him. *and isn't this whole thing a huge spoiler seeing as Trevor "died" in the last JL issue? I mean, if he actually died, I would have been impressed by such a bold move. Too bad.
August 23, 2012 5:43 am Great article, Jeff! Always wondered what the history of Ace was (he was the only character I knew of when Superman went to Limbo). Love that Titus is in Batman and Robin, and I really hope he stays around more. Definitely reminds me of Ace from Batman Beyond. I'm not too happy that Morrison brought back Ace into continuity pre-Flashpoint since it does seem silly. I also like how Robin complains about Ace having a mask, when in that panel you posted he's the one who MADE the mask for Ace. Also, got to love that Ambush Bug panel of him trying to keep from laughing when explaining Ace's origin. Great stuff as always, Jeff. Keep it up!
August 22, 2012 3:00 pm Ever since JL and JLU, I have been spoiled by the notion of Batman and Wonder Woman being together. Even during The Obsidian Age and issue 90 of JLA they explored this, and all the alternate realities did turn out in tragedy to some degree, but there was still a strong relationship there and Clark and Bruce did still like each other but were too afraid to explore it. It was the thought of Bruce that turned Wonder Woman from being a black lantern into being a star sapphire. I hate to be THAT guy, but I ship Batman/Wonder Woman all the way! Though, I do want to see how this Superman and Wonder Woman story plays out.
August 16, 2012 10:36 pm I'd love to see Nathan Fillion as Star-Lord. Or Hal Jordan. Or both. Or bring back Firefly. Whatever comes first :)
