October 11, 2012 10:57 am Solid Issue. It felt more like AvX 13 then the beginning of a new era in Marvel. Am I the only one that fell that Logan's speec was both out of character and lacked meaning? I expected to be swept into the emotoin revolving Xavier's death, but it was just very matter of fact. Maybe I should have read AvX Consequences, but then again shouldn't a story really stand on it's own and not require you to purchase everything to get a sense of satisfaction?
October 2, 2012 4:01 pm I don't necessarily disagree with you Mike; Ultimate Peter Parker was great and probably one of the big reasons along with Civil War that I got back into comics in 2006. That said, maybe there's something to Parker's run having a definitive beginning middle and end? Sort of like Y: the Last Man, Ex Machina and Scalped but only Marvel's version? I've been enjoying Miles. I was very skeptical at first, but Bendis' has been doing a masterful job. Probably the best work that he's doing now. The Avengers family just doesn't have that same feel since the renumbering.
August 7, 2012 4:39 pm Agree 1000% on this Mike. While digital has made it much easier to get my comics however, and whenever I want, it has also taken away the immediacy to read the comics. I remember looking forward to Wednesday so that I could walk over to the comic store and get this week's new books. Now with comixology I find myself just glossing over the new release books and pretty much having the mindset that I will get to them when I get to them. Needless to say, this has caused me to continue consistently reading only a handful of books. With respec to Marvel, you hit the nail on the head. Once I fall behind on a Marvel book, I'm inclined to just trade wait; not because I love trades or prefer the format, but because I can't wrap my head around paying $3.99 for a issue that came out in November of 2011. Defenders #1 is still $3.99????? I mean c'mon. Save for daredevil, AvX and now Hawkeye, I no longer buy any Marvel book day and date. It's had the opposite of the intended effect.
July 2, 2012 2:37 pm The collector's edition looks great. Not sure if it's $100 great, but great nonetheless. May just go ahead and pick up the Evil Edition for $40 while I'm at SDCC.
February 27, 2012 3:54 pm Everytime I read these type of articles, I always wonder how many people genuinely think they are going to fund their retirment with their collection, By the looks of it there are at least a few. It's frightening.
December 28, 2011 7:12 pm Keeping to the comics/geeky gifts, I received the LOTR extended edition Blu ray set, which I really wanted; a $25 iTunes gift card, which I spent on Batman Knightfall, Stumptown, Dark Knight Returns, and No Man's Land; a starwars t-shirt; and Quarriors, a dice based board game.
November 3, 2011 10:50 pm Everyone of these same day digital threads always has a) the guy that worries about @comixology going out of business (CEO of Comixology stressed that it's not an issue; they are doing well, and if they were ever remotely in trouble someone would swoop in, and buy them out, b) the guy who says wake me when the comics are 99 cents with no basis other than to say he wants things to be cheaper. Personally, this is great news. I've picked up all my DC, and Image books through the comixology app except for American Vampire, which isn't yet available same day digital. I've been inclined to drop any Marvel book not released digitally like the Avengers (entire line), Daredevil, and Punisher, but haven't taken that drastic step yet. I'm glad this is coming sooner rather than later. The only thing I have to deal with now is my guilt in no longer going to Midtown Comics; a lot of cool people over there, and you can always drum up a chat if you're looking for one.
November 2, 2011 2:40 pm Mike, Am I really going to have to go out and double dip on the Martini Edition? Everything about the deluxe edition seems awesome. I also have the Thor Omnibus/tomb waiting to be read along with the recent Claremont Omnibus, and the Kirby, and Stan Lee Captain America Omnibi just to name a few. Here's hoping I get to catch up during the holidays.
October 11, 2011 2:32 pm Love the cover for Black Panther. If's available digitially on comixology, I'll pick it up, which is like since they've been releasing all Spider-Island related issues day, and date.
September 28, 2011 11:59 pm Not surprised people are complaining about the book because it was too "wordy." I guess I shouldn't be surprised that cmic book fans, for the most past, don't want to do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to their books. I for one thought the book wad great. The narration, and the article serving as a backdrop to the entire story was a nice touch. Really felt like I got a great story for my $2.99.
