And so a very entertaining comic series comes to an end with an overly imagery filled whimper of an end….

I don't know which was more disappointing, that this was a totally unclimatic ending (not to mention a series that played like a Micheal Bay movie) or that BMB has only written a prequel to another event that adds another Avengers title to the Marvel line-up.
After reading this and checking the Marvel Previews special that came out today, I'm getting off the BMB bandwagon and dropping all my Avengers titles.
And now I'm even more disappointed that one of my favourite comics, Thunderbolts, will be too intrinsically tied into this debacle.
The only good thing that came out of this issue, is Tony Stark gets the bitch slapping to his life that he deserves after being the fascist pig he was during and after Civil War.
And oh yeah, Janet Van Dyne dying......who the heck cares?! And according to the SI: Requiem solicit it isn't like she's really dead..............
For a semi Batman fan I was surprised that I own / have read most of these titles.
However, the one I would add to the list is Batman: The Cult, which I don't know if it is traded but I own the 4 issue prestige format series and I love taking it out every couple of years and rereading it.
Right then......
I've spent the last 3 evenings reading The Black Dossier and I'm either thinking I don't get the subtext or Mr. Moore was just having a mental masturbatory experience at our expense (literally).
The art, especially the 3d stuff at the end, was very very well done. Mr Neill has done a great job of showing that he can do various artstyles, tho' if you pay close attention you can see they are all his work.
But as for the writting, unlike the first two books that had well defined beginnings, middles and ends and told a nice coherent and entertaining story, The Black Dossier seems to be a bunch of psuedo history wrapped in a framing experience of a chase. I think what throws me is the end and Prospero's speech. Mr Moore, via Propero, is making some interesting and seemingly deep comments on the nature of the reader and the read, but it just seems rather heavy handed and 'thick'.
I think this is a book I would recommend you read a friends copy of and save yourself the $25.
And some indy Starlin that I liked was his Breed series from Malibu.
Infinity Gauntlet led to my love of Thanos, Adam Warlock and most of the Cosmic aspects of Marvel.
So what did you guys think of the followup series, Infinity War, Infinity Crusade, and Infinity Abyss?
Only one problem with this series so far.......I WANT MORE!!!
Don't know if I can wait til next month to read the next issue............<slaps arm> I NEED MY FIX MAN!!!
Okay, so this was the worlds longest introduction to a new 'super team', a redeemed villian and a bad girl team up? WTF?
The only payoff this series had was $150+ to my comic dealer......it was kinda like extortion or 'protection' money. Except I feel more violated than protected.
Okay for a series that initially didn't thrill me too much, and then grabbed me real hard waiting for each issue, it was very disappointing with regards to the endings.
They both seemed forced and flat.
Makes me glad I was reading a friends copy, and will be reconsidering the trade.......
@ ohcaroline - they have recently put out 1 Question TP that collects the first 6 issues of the 80's comic, and there is a 2nd one coming out in the next month or two.
Yeah, I was disapointed by the end as it wasn't an end, just a beginning. This felt more like the first story arc of a new series.
I sincerely hope DC, with Rucka, keeps this going, even if it is a bunch of connected liimited series.
I'm thinking the homage to the 'old style' comics is representative of the fact that most of us readers are old enough to remember when all comics were like that. I don't know if the younger generation, being used to clean, bright, shiny art/colours, will appreciate this issue for that fact.
And it is sooooooo nice to hear I'm not the only one who HATES the Sentry!
And I'm only reading this series to keep up to date on how the 'Bendisverse' is shaping up.
