Name: Shawn McLoughlin

Bio: I'm 28. I was an avid comic collector in the late 80s through the end of the 90s, but an unknown catalyst made me cease purchasing comics around the early 2000s, and even that was following a downscale. I believe I was only buying Danger Girl and Dawn at that point. A second mysterious catalyst made me start up again in 2008. Now, like most things I involve myself in, it has become an obsession. Not one that I would stop drinking or going out for, but definitely one to take time away from my other two interests; writing and film. Other than that, there isn't too much terribly interesting about me. I'm an accountant, which means I need to drink a lot, and I tend to be lenient in my appreciation towards things, enjoying the finer things for being fine and being humbled by things not quite as astonishing. I write film reviews for several websites the most active of which is www.dvdinmypants.com. Swing by and have a smoke and some lemonade.I have an unnatural obsession with Milla Jovovich and Elektra (the character, not the film)Oh, and I like cats. NOTO FUN FACT: The only cheese that I particularly care for is cheddar. BONUS FUN FACT: I was the lucky winner of Tim Seely's original art to the cover of Boom Studio's upcoming Jennifer's Body GN. The money went to Josh Medors' to help him fight the good fight against his cancer, so I got an awesome item for the ultimate in good causes. One of the best purchasing decisions I ever made.

May 14, 2012 10:17 pm I'm behind on ASM but have been picking it up. Do I need to buy this?
May 11, 2012 10:12 am The Morning Glories cover would be awesome, if not for the fact that the floor tiles are all out of whack with the rest of the room, and that's accounting for perspective. Full disclosure: I work for a flooring company. that sort of this bothers me.
May 8, 2012 10:43 am It's definitely a cult classic now, as is Lundgren's Punisher, but it certainly wasn't anything near being "very popular at the time of its release." It didn't even do well on the video market, unlike Army of Darkness, because it didn't get to a sell-thru price until years later and didn't even come out on DVD until a couple of years ago. It made what it made based off of rentals, and gained its notoriety as a cable re-run staple. Although I have to disagree with Chris' commentary on the Duck outfit's special effects. They were quite advanced for its time. In fact, everyone raved about pretty much the same use of animatronics in the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film made a few years later. The real problem with the Howard the Duck film is the script and pacing. The first and third acts actually move, and the entire middle section drags on with sequences that have boring (and unfunny) dialogue. Lots of films have that pacing problem, but in HtD's case, The well paced two-thirds of the acts actually take up less than half of the running time, so the slower scenes move all that much slower.
May 6, 2012 12:06 am I assumed it was Static. I guess I could be wrong though.
May 2, 2012 2:18 am Read this tonight. This was totally worth the wait. I wish #2 was coming out next week.
May 2, 2012 2:12 am I think I've got like 30 books this week.. I haven't been as excited for a week in comics for a long time. X-O, Epic Kill, Mind the Gap, Earth Two, not to mention Animal Man/Swamp Thing.
April 30, 2012 8:32 pm I'm so excited for this book!!!
March 12, 2012 11:28 am Needs some Udo Kier in there somewhere in order to make it work. But this is excellent casting.
March 8, 2012 12:59 am Man, I LOVED this!
March 7, 2012 3:07 pm I like how almost nothing happened in six issues, and yet I'm still interested in reading it.
