July 19, 2012 9:14 am Do you need to have read any of the last issues to enjoy these stories? Or are they all stand alone? I'd like to give it a shot if I don't have to track down any of the other issues (which I might if I like this one).
May 11, 2012 11:09 am I'm pretty sure if I stare at the Spider-Man sketch long enough I am going to get kicked in the face. I'm a sucker for perspective shots like that.
May 4, 2012 10:22 am I want to give a shout out to the Fury Max #1 cover. I thought the white silhouette on the orange background was very striking. The images on Fury's chest really did a good job of letting you know what kind of book this is going to be. A good read too.
May 3, 2012 11:14 am Dat cover! Can I get an amen! I seriously hate Marvel's love of double shipping, especially since most of them are 3.99 books, but my god, I would have no problem buying DD weekly. And for a 2.99 book it's well worth every penny.
May 2, 2012 3:18 pm I have had this theory before as well. I want to see it happen just because it would be so subversive to modern movies where the good guy always wins. I told my dad this theory and he was pissed. Like most people he wants a happy ending (insert joke here...) and told me to see it first and to let him know if Batman dies so that he can avoid it. Otherwise, he wants to see it with me. I would argue however that just because Bruce Wayne dies, does not mean that the antagonist wins. No, the symbol, the hero Gotham needs, will prevail and will overcome Bane. If only I could convince my dad of this. It would be great to see, but am doubtful it would actually happen. Realistically, I think Bruce could become incapacitated as opposed to murdered.
April 30, 2012 3:41 pm I'm picking this up even though I have all of the issues. Why? Because (A) I have no patience (B) It's dirt cheap on Amazon (C) It's that damn good. Anyone on the fence really should give it a shot. Also, no prior knowledge of the character required to enjoy.
April 26, 2012 4:08 pm Haha, Smasher, I assure you my dander is still down. I appreciate the response guys (unless Smasher is a gal). Not everything is going to be for everyone. Maybe I'm a bit of traditionalist when it comes to superheroes and Grant is too progressive. It seems that he gets a pass with his Batman run which just turned who Batman is on its head, while JMS does the same to Spiderman and causes an uproar. All-Star Superman is about the only work of his I have enjoyed as well as the first couple issues of Action Comics with plainclothes Superman (which is a creative risk in the right direction), but I have to say I don't think I have read any of his creator owned work due to my lukewarm interest in his superhero books. Maybe I would appreciate those as they are his and his alone and don't involve years of history and established characters.
April 26, 2012 3:08 pm Can someone explain why he is "the most important comic book writer working today," please? I don't get it. I don't get him and I don't get his writing. I feel like he completely lacks an understanding of the characters he is writing. From what I've read it seems his whole schtick is to intentionally write characters in a different way than they've been presented in the past and then put them through some bizarre series of events with no regard for fluidity or logic. Different is great and I would never try to undersell creative risks, but I just get the impression that his writing is essentially masturbatory and he gets off by his self-proclaimed shitting on characters and their histories. In my opinion, his writing comes down to one thing - shock value.
July 25, 2011 3:02 pm This is it ASM! Your last chance. We've been through a lot together. Some 'amazing', some, well, let's just say significantly less than amazing. With every issue I get closer and closer to ending our affair. I thought when you taught important lessons to the Avengers Academy we were done. I said it could not get any worse than this, but I continued against all odds (Hello, Phil!). But I promise, this is it. Please interest me; I'm desperate for our forgotten love.
July 18, 2011 3:12 pm Had no idea the new storyline was starting this week. This just made my day!!!! I just hope they can keep up the fantasticness that is Locke & Key.
