@Edward - embrace the hug. It's not lame.  It's an acceptable sign of greeting, affection, congratulations, farewell, and so many other meanings.  Unless you are terrified of germs, in which case, don't hug weird people on the subway.  Aside from that, there's no need to fear human contact. 

If you still can't, though, you can hug a kitty.  That's more manly, right?
