This was one of the most shocking issues of a comic I’ve read in some time. Unfortunately, my surprise wasn’t…

December 19, 2012 9:35 am I think Hickman is a writer whose craft has benefitted greatly from his contracted marvel work. He's always been A+ on the big ideas but his creator owned characters were flat and his stories felt heartless as a result (still awesome in many ways though, mind you) But working with established characters and bending his mad genius around those strong characters seems to have affected his own creator owned storytelling for the better (see: Manhatten Projects) And I expect some of that stronger character work to present itself in these Avengers stories too. For now, #1 was an epic prologue in my book. Can't wait to really dive in in the coming issues. I fully trust Hickman and his absurdly talented roster of artists.
December 11, 2012 9:32 am Anyone who hasn't read this is set for extreme awesomeness. Absolutely one of my favorite comic series ever. Prepare to have expectations shattered, people. On a side note, been reading Remender's Uncanny X-Force in trade, definitely the way to really appreciate his plotting. Whoa!
November 20, 2012 2:27 pm Much of JR JR's work has looked rushed in recent years (and probably was!) But, like most Marvel NOW titles, the creators had quite a bit of time to work on these books before release, and it shows. The preview pages looked fantastic to my eye and I think the colorist is a big reason for that. I'm loving the look of JR JR at his best with these colors. Incredu my atmospheric and perfectly suited for a heavy sci-fi tale. Can't wait.
November 14, 2012 2:11 pm This book read much like Gillen's JIM but with Aaron's gravitas coming through more than Gillen's wit. Added with Ribic's pencil's and White's colors, Aaron going all-out epic makes this book truly heavy (in the best possible way) I was mourning the end of JIM and its exploration of gods and pantheons. Young Loki's trickery fit that title's tone so well. But now I'm trilled to have a new asgardian adventure to jump into. And this issue seems to expire Thor's character and "godlyness" with the same level of creativeness as JIM dissected Loki. I'm 100% on board. To say the least.
November 6, 2012 12:56 pm Since JIM became the best "tie-in" to Fear Itself, Gillen has proven himself to be the master of handling event tie ins. Heck, I still maintain the JIM's Fear Itself issues WERE the event!
November 6, 2012 10:46 am I don't dislike Land. His work is just... Bland. But while I definitely don't love his work i do think that his storytelling is solid and his books read extremely smoothly. That said, the writing would have to be damned good for me to be EXCITED to pick up one of his books. I do prefer him on a tech-based book like Iron Man than Uncanny X-Men though.
October 30, 2012 1:35 pm Gotta give credit where it is due. A lot of these Marvel Now titles have made me very reenergized for marvel comics in general.
October 22, 2012 6:57 pm I'm calling it now: this. Book. Will. Rock.
September 10, 2012 1:53 pm This story begs to be read as a trade... But very, very tempting...
September 7, 2012 12:35 pm I love Waid's fun DD. But I'll never actually get tired of a gritty, noir DD stories if they're interesting and well executed. I also have every expectation that this will be wildly ambitious, which I always support. I'm sure it'll end on a huge triumphant note too, which would make it hard to bill as "dark and depressing" when it's all said and done. For instance: I hardly consider Born Again to be a bleak, depressing story. Quite the opposite actually. And I think Bendis will try to make this the triumphant end cab for his DD as Born Again was that for Miller's DD run.
