March 24, 2011 5:38 pm Terrific stuff, and Hardman looks leagues better inking his own work with Bettie Breitweiser on colors. This is the last $3.99 issue, wrapping up the back-up story with A-Bomb and the She-Hulks. Interesting parallel track with the Zero/One developments right alongside General Fortean's newest scheme to take down his former C.O.
March 24, 2011 4:15 pm Seems to be Marvel's answer to people not liking families of books--just publish the single titles you've got multiple times a month. It's absolutely right that fans are looking not for jumping-on points, but jumping-off points, and "Point One" and these twice-a-month ventures are giving the fans just what they want in that regard. Now, I'm a Hulk fanatic, not so much a Spidey one (although yeah, I kind of run a Spidey podcast now), but still, what was two issues in a month became three, and now four. (I'm hoping Parker's HULK, excellent though it is, won't double-up shipping more than this month and the month of "Planet Red Hulk," although, hey, probably dreaming.)

Sales'll suffer in the longterm. I'd really rather Marvel release one high-quality issue of a series in a given month than stretch themselves thin with multiple art teams tripping over each other and each writer having not nearly the lead time needed. (Although hey, I'm sure that being paid by the page, those writers may not precisely be complaining. Two issues a month = double the $$.)

March 10, 2011 1:25 pm Wow. Sadly I just preordered issue #2 two days ago. I guess I can cancel that! Depressing, although I have to say that however long the wait it should still be worthwhile. Then again, the delays are killing any hope of building momentum on this new series, and with the comics market not being what it once was, that momentum is all-important. It's a tough market for any character, and new characters have it hardest of all, even Bat-characters. Maybe this book should be canceled altogether to make way for an OGN. Maybe the whole project would be best served by making it a series of OGNs on par with SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE. One thing is certain: Williams' art takes time--certainly more time than a monthly schedule permits.

I also think that Rucka and Williams caught lightning in a bottle with the earlier arc in 'TEC. Can Williams do it again solo, or rather with a lesser-known writer such as Blackman? From the #0 preview I remain unconvinced. I guess time will tell...
March 10, 2011 11:53 am That's Ryan "Bodenheim." Trust me, I'm sure.;) Looks interesting. We'll see how this event ties into the larger crossover with the Norse God of Fear. What does he want with Manny, anyway?

Hey, doesn't Nighthawk look kinda...big...compared to two heavies like She-Hulk and Frankenstein's Monster?
March 9, 2011 3:40 pm I just finished reading this series--or rather, rereading it, in one huge hunk, for the first time ever (as previously I just read it monthly) a few weeks ago. It's such a labor of love for the creative people involved, especially James Robinson, that it's an easy, easy win for best comics title begun in the 1990s. (Sandman? Started in '89. And even then...) The development of all characters, including the "character" of Opal City itself, is spot-on, and the artistic consistency was amazing all the way down the line. Really, this is what all comics should aspire to be. It's an incredible journey, and looking back it's even better than it was monthly. Kudos on discussing this gem, guys.

March 2, 2011 1:53 pm Verrrrrrrry interesting to see the 616 crossover with the AoA. Although I'm not much of an X-fan (and I've just had 10 demerits loped off here, haven't I?), I enjoyed the original AoA and seeing more might just bring me back to the fold. For the eventual trade, at least. But hey, Remender did great by Frank Castle when I'd fallen out of sorts with his adventures, so anything's possible!

March 1, 2011 11:13 am Hmm, looks like....Absorbing Man, Juggernaut (obvious), and...Grey Gargoyle? Pretty Thor-centric, for obvious reasons...

Hey Ron & co.--thanks for mentioning my article again, and as always, great work! I'll admit, I didn't like #23--there were still some things that irked me and you can read all about that on my own blog, Delusional Honesty (link in my profile!). I too agree that the Red Hulk saga Loeb crafted was better than he was immediately given credit for. Sure, some pieces just don't fit in the larger Hulk mythos, but casual readers won't catch it. That said, the majority of the continuity holds up, and it's a fun story.

As for the trades: 1) Hulk: Red Hulk, 2) Hulk: Red & Green, 3) Hulk: Hulk No More, 4) Hulk Vs. X-Force, 5) Hulk: Fall of the Hulks, and the upcoming 6) Hulk: World War Hulks. The last 2 crossover with the Greg Pak-written volumes bearing much the same name (but "Incredible" is a part of their names). And don't forget Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman have just begun their own run on the Red Hulk with HULK #25, which is getting some acclaim around the web.

Toodles!

@KingHulkMarco - I do find that bit of "Hulk folklore" hard to swallow, especially given that the pencil sketch of Red Hulk that's shown as McG's "first" rendition of the character is mustache-free.  I've never seen the #1 cover with the 'stache, and until I do, I might have to file the idea under "Hulk hooey."

Missing Link, eh?  I miss ol' Linc.  Haven't seen him since ROM #29.
