April 27, 2013 11:10 pm I feel so out of the loop. Are there really that many fans of the 2099 line? Fan favorite? I must have missed something major here. But hey, maybe I am just out if touch. No. It's the children who are wrong.
April 1, 2013 3:20 pm Agreed on the sad aspect of timing. Still, it is definitely one of those series that I would rather wait until they can do it right. Not realistic for many of the big two comics given expectations of monthly shipping, but fantastic for the more self-contained independent comics. I would far prefer getting an installment every three months that rocks than filler issues of questionable interest to me. Plus, it adds a bit to going bakc and reading it all together to see the pieces that were so spread out. I also read JLA/Avengers (fun), Superman (kinda odd, but it was better than the Jim Lee stuff that followed), and BPRD. I think that I had dropped Green lantern a bit before this, and picked it back up starting the next issue with Kyle's return to earth and finale of volume 2 for the series.
March 7, 2013 12:43 am The New Universe was ackowledged to some degree in the 616 universe in the 90s. Many of the characters and the star brand in particular were featured in Quasar...which seven people (including myself) read. I am interested to see if that is acknowledged at all in this storyline.
March 1, 2013 7:55 pm I see your point...still, what if I want to go back and re-read those old issues of Brigade...or my collect it's item Boof #1?
February 11, 2013 8:33 pm This is a good thing. And I do not mean that as an insult to Johns. He has truly done great things for this franchise. But I do think things have gotten less exciting since the blackest night stuff. I think that all great creators have to know when to call it a day with certain characters. GL has progressively fallen farther and farther from must read for me.
February 10, 2013 11:23 am I generally agree with the sentiments regarding missed opportunities. At the start of this thing (new 52) DC had buzz and momentum, but it seems like they lacked a real focus and long-term vision. Make the heroes younger? Cool. Fresh start for old favorites? Good idea. But then they clearly never took the time to determine the timeline and status of each character- so we have in idea what the history is between major characters, and in most cases introductions are treated poorly. For example, the whole four robins in five years problem. I generally have no trouble with DC experimenting with new kinds of books and pulling the plug if they fail to take off (RIP Omac, Frankenstein, etc). I think my frustration as a long-time fan is the lack of foresight and consideration for these larger issues. In the end wasn't the whole point of the flashpoint to clean up the issues of messy continuity? Not make more which has arguably been the result. I am still reading a healthy number of DC books, but it is down to about 15when I gave a solid majority of the new books a try. And they have some great books, but I find myself less invested in the universe as a whole when these things keep happening. For example, Batman appears to have an extensive (5-year) history with all his villains, but Aquaman never battled Ocean Master until now? Things just do not add up in a satisfying way. I say go all in, or just call it all off, undo the flashpoint and get things back to where we were. It may not be much of an improvement, but it t least does away with these kinds of silly questions that should not trouble me as a reader. In the grand scheme, both of the big two could learn from the kind if books that Image is putting out. There are new ideas out there and interesting concepts to explore.
January 31, 2013 8:51 pm Oh man. Had I been drinking milk when I read this there would have been quite the mess. Just saying. Googling things rarely turns out well.
