March 29, 2013 2:59 am I swear to God I am not trolling here - I quite like Noto, generally - but that is THE DULLEST cover image I have seen in years. Hey everybody check out this brand new #1 - IT'S SOME WHOLLY UNREMARKABLE PEOPLE AT A TABLE. It could be anyone, doing anything from having dinner to plotting a global nuclear holocaust to playing pinochle. What is happening? Who are these people? Why do I care? Who is 'Jupiter'? What is their 'Legacy'? I have no clue. There isn't even anything about their clothes or appearance of interest - they're all of indeterminate age, white-looking...oh hey one guy has a MOUSTACHE call the Event Police
March 6, 2013 11:24 pm Brandon Graham confirmed on twitter today that Stokoe got paid a flat page rate for the project and is urging people who just want to support Stokoe (like myself...) to buy Orc Stain or Godzilla instead. Personally, that's pretty disappointing to hear at this stage. I backed it last year, paid $60 (partially to offset the cost of having it shipped to me in Japan) and still haven't got the book long after it has appeared in stores and on amazon. I really want to know why Joe Public is getting it long before a backer of the project. I also had no inkling that Stokoe wouldn't see any of the potential profits. Although I guess the page rate still supported him directly, it's hard to imagine him being as invested in the project as much as if he had co-created it and would be seeing royalties.
January 18, 2013 1:27 am Sorry but there is not one thing distinctive about this art that I can see. I mean, it's not ugly, it's reasonably competent, fits the DC house style I guess...doesn't make me want to read any further at all though.
January 17, 2013 11:42 pm I think it's going to be Bruce Wayne's alleged brother from Court of the Owls - a family member (if his story is true) and someone who usurped Batman's attention while the Joker was gone. A few other things in the dialog hint at it too. Obviously the serving dish is a pretty strong hint that it IS Alfred but I think that's misdirection. Let's face it, it'd be much easier to kill off a character they just invented rather than a key piece of the mythology than Alfred
June 22, 2012 10:01 pm (my pet peeve in comics? Asian text. I can read Japanese, and it drives me up the wall when artists cut and paste random chunks of CHINESE text and put it in a Tokyo scene, or vice versa. Modern Japanese 'katakana' script - the one used for transliterated foreign languages - used in Kun-lun. In a recent Avengers ish, the text was actually mirrored and upside down. The most jarring is when an artist just does some chopsticky squiggles that are supposed to represent Chinese characters. Obviously in the grand scheme of things it's not really worth taking the time/money to do this right but yeah)
June 22, 2012 9:56 pm Ironic that you misspelled 'gaffe' there but I sympathize ;) In my work, I see an awful lot of people appear expert on given topics. Most of the time, I know less than them about these topics, and find their arguments convincing. When it happens to be something I know more about than them, the least little flaw in the information or opinions they present stops me from buying into their argument completely. It's likely an overreaction but one we're all prone too, I think. Then again, monthly comics. Don't like it? Wait for the next one.
June 8, 2012 4:24 am The current show clashes hugely with the Ultimate Spider-man show - my daughter is confused as hell about it. It's not just different appearances and voices - the tone is radically different. USM wants to be Community or Adventure Time; TAEMH wants to be a proper drama on top of deliciously crunchy fanservice and often succeeds. USM is just not my thing at all unfortunately so not looking forward to more in that vein. Of course they could go in a totally different direction and have 616 and Ultimate universes be separate in animation as well but that would just be crazy, wouldn't it.
May 22, 2012 3:27 am jeez, the Irredeemable finale really snuck up on me, thought it was still months away
May 11, 2012 2:00 am A virgin in the films. A lonely ramrod in the comics. Why do you hate yourself so much, America?
