Hawkeye did not go out like a bitch.  it was a sacrifice.  he felt the Avengers were going to be defeated by the (albeit imaginary) Kree, so rather than go down like a bitch, he decided to take it to them by grabbing one of these Kree that were attacking them, and Hawkeye  activated the jet pack so it would fly into the spaceship.  he died by his own actions.

after that second panel, clearly making Batwoman a lipstick lesbian was a good creative choice... I think

I think it's a bullshit way of doing it, but I believe the stories in Breaking Into... have a subtle subtext that is supposed to inspire people.  Guggenheim's Spidey story talking about working hard while other more well known heroes get credit; Stuart Moore penned Tony Stark telling people to "..build those machines for youself"; Bullseye's will and determination; Nico taking on...
