Would you care for a story with your cheesecake? Well Chris Claremont provides one, and it’s a rather silly concoction reminiscent of “Treasure Island” and an Indian Jones movie. Most of the calories to this comic book confection are provided by artist Milo Manara who gives us the closest thing in years to those swim suit issues that the comic book companies used to produce. Rogue inherits a villa on a Greek island (who knew she had such rich relatives?) where she invites her X-Homegirls, Marvel Girl, Psylocke, Storm and Shadowcat for a vacation. This situation gives Manara the excuse to put the ladies in all sorts of strikingly fetching and skimpy outfits. But trouble always follows the X-Men, and in this case it comes in the form of a villainous baroness with great cleavage who is bent on capturing some territory from China and India. Yes, there are some Claremontisms, such as overwrought dialogue like, “Plain fact is, someone’s trying to start a war … and they’re using our friends.” But Claremont also provides some fun moments like Storm singing karaoke like Tina Turner, and Shadowcat phasing her jet ski though a yacht. Come on, you know you would try flying through a yacht on a jet ski if you could! The baroness’ blouse is almost ripped off when she is defeated, but I think she will reappear soon in another X-Book with a new shirt. The other X-Scribes will flesh out (pun intended) her personality, and she just may become a classic villain. By the way, Milo Manara also does a beautiful job portraying temples, Greek villages and facial expressions.

i could not say no to the cover of mucho oral gratification…even if Claremont wrote it…well maybe if Byrne drew it
