While I’m usually not a fan of a book having more than one artist working on it, I really wish they’d found someone to split penciling duties with Acuna.  His art is breathtakingly perfect for the world created by Emplate, but what makes it perfect for fantasy worlds makes it abysmal for the real world action.  Cyclops has extremely disproportionate limbs in this issue.  I mean, maybe he has Marfan Syndrome, and I’ve just never realized it, but I don’t think that’s the case.  And Acuna’s insistence that background characters don’t need faces is just creepy, but not creepy good.

Carey’s writing hits a few speed bumps in this issue, too.  “You cretinous dwarf” is not his best piece of dialog this decade.  But, overall, he does okay here.
