I usually have a system for reading comics.  Start with something I’m fairly certian I’m really going to like, then any comics I fear I’m not going to like, then the ones I’m reading for continuity’s sake, followed by the comics I love.

This week, I had two days off from the comic book store, and didn’t stop in to pick up any issues.  So, first thing Thursday, I went in and picked up a pile of comics, and started to read them solely based on where they were placed on the shelves.

The first thing I picked up was Kingbreaker.  The first issue didn’t wow me.  In fact, The War Of Kings one-shot started off amazingly, but sort of dragged in the middle for me.  So I wasn’t really looking forward to this.  It was a strictly, read for the point of continuity title.  But this issue was pretty good.

I think I’m in the minority of X-fans who like Yost’s writing.  I liked Academy X, and I like this.  It makes schlepping through The Rise And Fall Of The Shi’ar Empire, and Emperor Vulcan seem worth it.  While this book is certainly stocked with X-people, it reads more like the cosmic Annihaltion book, which is necessary to fit into The War Of Kings.
