I don’t really know much about Daken, and I only recently started following X-23, first in Second Coming and then I watched the X-Men: Evolution episodes she featured in.

The main thing I want to mention is the tone of this series. I guess that’s down to Marjorie Liu; as the book has suffered from a constant rotation of artists. It’s unlike almost any other comic I’m reading. The closest thing I can compare it to is Dollhouse. There’s something so bleak and sad about the main character. FInally this series finds an artist who fits in Ryan Stegman, previously alternating between 90s super detail crosshatching and anime cutie pie Stegman is a great mix who renders the brutal action and character moments with equal aplomb.

I am not really sure where this series is going and I haven’t been gaga over every story or the sometimes chaotic narrative but the unique tone and wandering samurai vibe keeps me coming back for me.
