Phil Noto’s art seems wasted on this silent issue. It seems as if Marjorie Liu was contractually obligated to put out a final issue, and so handed Noto a script that said “Ahhh, throw a bunch of wolves, and, maybe dream sequences, a lot of shots of X-23 waking up in different places, and maybe throw some shots of of her naked, but strategically covered by things like, I don’t know, snow. BOOM! Gold! I’m a genius!”

I’d be even more disappointed if I was invested with the series. Also, the last page saying “The End and the Beginning…” makes me really nervous about Liu’s impending Astonishing run. That’s some overused trite shit.

I guess the issue gets kudos for setting up what I think is the first goalpost review I’ve ever given: 1 for the writing, and 5 for the art.

I do want to be clear that I’m not giving the writing a zero because there are no words in it. You can do a lot with a script without including any words. Liu, however, has not done that here. She also lost a full point for having X-23 fight Nega X-23 for a page and a half. The writing is just all around amateur hour.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 5 - Excellent
