A couple of months ago, I vowed not to read any books with an “X” on the cover besides X-Factor.  Between Necrosha and Nation X, I just haven’t been enjoying any of the books, and thought maybe I’d like them better in trade than in issues.  But I love X-23, so I decided to give this issue a read through.  And, wow.

This is by far the most beautiful X-book I’ve ever seen. Ever.  Hyperbolically, ever.

Stylized art is so easy to screw up, but Andrade and Alves nailed it here.  I would each one of these red, angsty scratches on my wall, and not just because they match the color palette!

I’ve also been secretly hoping that Laura ran into (*this collective noun censored for non-spoilerificosity*) for a while now, and was not disappointed in how Liu handled it.  Very not disappointed..

I would love to see this creative team on Legacy or Uncanny.  Love.  Lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve.

  1. eww you vowed ONLY to read X-factor? I really hope you read New Mutants because it hasn’t sucked yet.

Oh and I’m with you 100% of the way on the book here. There’s just something endearing about her mind, and they narrated her inner journey like pros. It’s REAAAAAAALLLY hard to actually sum up what happened so I could get a friend to check it out. I could only say that it’s an inner struggle. Pretty funny for a book that’s this good.

  2. @mangaman: I love X-Factor.  And, while I thought the first few issues of New Mutants were okay, and whjile I did love the way they were handling Doug Ramsey’s powers now, the Necrosha arc really turned me off New Mutants, X-Force and…whichever other X book it was.

But I would pick up any X title they printed with Andrade &/or Plati doing the art.

  3. I felt the end of the first New Mutants arc did, in fact, suck. I have liked Necrosha, but wasn’t thrilled with how it ended in NM. I think Zeb Wells is still finding his footing with New Mutants, nailing certain characterizations, but clueless on others. Hopefully he finds his stride because I see potential.
