I had no real affinity for or knowledge about X-23 going into this, but the art just sucked me in — and I’m glad it did. It’s a tight little character study that’s emotionally complex but doesn’t take a lot of continuity background to understand or enjoy (though this book really makes me want to read NYX). The cover was beautiful, but I especially loved the scratchy red-and-white dream sequence scenes, which were a great counterpoint to the more solid blue-grey tones in the rest of the book.

  1. Have not read the first NYX, but this was better than the second one (which was also written by Liu).
