I picked up all of DC’s Anniversary issues this month, while I thought Superman was a wasted effort, and Batman was just solid, I felt that Wonder Woman was the best of the three.
Now I’m not a regular Wonder Woman reader, in fact I think I only read her twice. The George Perez run, and the Who is Wonder Woman trade. But I’m very familar with her due to Lynda Carter, Justice Leauge and the cartoons. We all have an idea of who she is.
Now, they want to change our perceptions.
First the stories. I loved the Simone/Perez section. It felt like a nice epilogue to Perez’s original run, and the art. Just fantastic. The story had action and heart.
Then we got a Amanda Conner. I don’t know if she ever had any previous connect to Wonder Woman, but the story was a kick, and, oddly, a nice epilogue to her Power Girl run too. Man I will miss that book.
The Louise Simonson story was alright. It felt like a 90′s tale that was stuck in someone’s drawer. All that talking and explaining of things.
Then Geoff Johns wrote a good bridge to JMS’s arc.
About JMS soon to be run, so she is now an 18 year old street fighter. They changed her iconic look and took her out of the current DC universe. Eh, we know its temporary, like all things in comics. Kramer is an underrated artist, so this high exposure helps him, the look itself, her outfit. Not very original. It seems like Wonder Woman but doesn’t say Wonder Woman. So I guess that was the point, to get people who wouldn’t buy Wonder Woman to give her a shot.
But the story itself wasn’t very interesting, we’ve seen it all before. Maybe I read too many comics.
Art: 5 - Excellent

I had never read anything like this so to me this was fresh and brilliant! I loved JMS’ intro! Fab-U-Lous!
I also thought the JMS story was intriguing. It hooked me enough to pick up #601. The Amanda Connor story and art was amazing and nearly stole the show.
