*sighs* You know, I love this site, I really do. It’s the best thing to happen to me because I found a place where I can love comics all over again. But sometimes it bothers me when I have to realise that even I can be wrong to a certain extent….I’ve been avoiding Jason Aaron books like the plague, mainly because I couldnt believe the hype that site has been giving to him for all these months. But I’ve read his Penguin one-shot, his run on Black Panther, hell even his Ghost Rider run!…..Now I’ve read this and I gotta say….I’m totally a fan now, and there is no way back.

This was such a good Wolverine arc, seriously, if it wasnt for Old Man Logan Millar story I would say this is my favorite Wolverine story ever. The writing in this book is so great, I mean it’s up to par with some of the best action books in today’s comics. There is a ton of humor, a great inside into Logan in general, and overall we have a writer who just knows how to write Wolverine. The art is also top notch, some of the best explosions and facial details I’ve seen in awhile. Altough my only gripe is the needless TnA towards the end with Mystique, totally didnt need it but it didnt ruin my enjoyment of the overall story. Oh and that end is really a total cop-out. Yes it’s obviously what the end would be, but it just seems Aaron was rushed to do this ending so we can see Millar’s run go full swing.

So I was wrong, I’m a man and I’ll live up to it. Jason Aaron is a great writer, but do you know why he is? Because he is turning otherwise medicore to down right terrible series, into something readable. Black Panther? Terrible until he came along. Ghost Rider? Oh dont get me started with the old issues. This Wolverine series? Just plain bad until he showed up. Plus he has made minor characters like Penguin and Panther more relevent and likeable since he came along. I’m still undecided on Scalped though, doesnt seem like my cup of tea even if it is great….Still I was wrong, wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong….What else do you need now?

  1. Why would you avoid Jason Aaron based on positive reviews? What a bizarre mindset.

  2. To me, if you overhype or just hype too much, then you get a little worried on the books people mention. Maybe that’s why I’m still a little iffy on Scalped, I mean it must be good if it’s been the sites POTW many times…..But I just dont know how great it will be when I read it.

I’m not discrediting anyone who loves that book or any of Aaron’s other books. To me it was just weird this guy was getting so much attention for such minor books, so of course I got worried. But in the review I said I was wrong so now I can see why he needs to get all the praise I can get.

  3. I hope thins kind of logic isn’t widespread.

  4. Good writing is good writing, no matter what stature the book is.

  5. Thinking that anything other than Scalped is his best work (at this point) doesn’t make sense to me.  However, if Vertigo or crime stuff aint’ your thing, I’m just glad he’s being read and getting recognition.

  6. Have you read The Otherside from Vertigo by Aaron about Vietnam? If not, you should. Can’t wait for his Wolverine: Manifest Destiny mini and the Punisher: X-Mas Special.

  7. @ Paul.  You’d be surprised how widespread that school of thought is.  It infects my school and friends.  I’m guilty of it once in a while, but I’m getting better.

  8. I understand the suspicion towards hype. I’ve learned to recognize the difference between hype and enthusiasm.

    Hype is blind enthusiasm.

  9. Calling recommendations from respected commentators and friends "hype" is sort of offensive.  Lame.
