What a perfect little comic!  I’ve been loving every issue of ‘Wolverine First Class’ since Fred Van Lente launched the book.  This is FVL’s last issue, and I couldn’t be sadder about it. But as a special bonus good-bye present, this ends up being mostly a story about Kitty and Cyclops.  I love these two characters together.  They’re both smart and practical, in totally different ways than Wolverine is, which is why they play off him so well. They also have a lot more in common than they want to admit to each other, which Van Lente understands, which leads to the perfect, and heartbreaking, conclusion to this issue.

Seriously — Kitty Pryde, Cyclops, Wolverine.  If you like any one of these characters, or you’re curious about them, or you just want to understand how they relate to each other better, give this book a shot.  This issue highlights the upsides *and* the drawbacks of each character’s approach to life and shows that none of them is better than the others, they’re just different.

Also, unnecessary to the story, but a continuity geek bonus, this takes place on Magneto’s crazy Cthulu-island in the Bermuda triangle, from ‘Uncanny X-Men’ 150, which is one of the most awesomely cracktastic Claremont issues ever.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good
