My pick of the week. Like Conor mentioned on the live show, this book is best during the down-time issues, when you get to learn more about the characters and what makes them tick.
Back when Remender was writing Uncanny X-Force, one of the coolest things about that book and this one was the way they remained aware of each others’ existence- events that occurred in each book were referenced in ways that mattered. It’s great to see that the connectedness is still there. Jason Aaron gets a round of applause from me for keeping this series plugged in. While the events that occur here are great by themselves, the acknowledgment of the bigger picture really tickles my geek-bone.
The art here was also incredible. Lopez & Lopez brought a degree of realism that feels great after the cartoony style of the Frankenstein arc.

This book is a joy!

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. I really didn’t enjoy the art in this one. All the “exclamation eyes” seemed far too exagerated to me, and some of the transitions with Kitty and Bobby left me a little lost as to what was going on. It took a while to figure out that Kitty was phasing that barn during a tornado…That could have been clearer.
I’m also really not a fan of Storm’s shoe-horned divorce, and even less keen on hooking up with Wolvie. I’m trying to keep an open mind, but after loving 23 issues of W&TXM to death, I’ve finally hit what, to me, felt like a clunker. I had high hopes for Kitty and Bobby’s date I guess.

On the plus side, Mohawk Storm! But ouch, I would NOT want Adamantium Claws shaving my head without at least some shaving cream.
