Did you know Warbird’s name is Ava’Dara Naganandidi? Well after this issue you’ll probably instanly forget it, but that’s not really important. What’s important is that Jason Aaron wrote one hell of a AVX tie-in and Nick Bradshaw drew one of the best issues of this series. Before this issue I didn’t give two craps about Warbird, but Jason Aaron made me care. He also adds more to the Bobby, Kitty, Warbird love triangle and delivers one of the best lines ever from a female character, “If you are able to pull yourself back together, know that I will still take you into my bed once this is over.” Every straight man wants to hear that from a woman after a bad event occurs. Also I wanna see a photo of a Warbird cosplayer and it’s Comic Con time so the chances are high. What really got me into Warbird is that she reveals that she liked to draw, something that I also like to do very much, and on her planet anything non-violent is frowned upon. Since AVX started, Gladiator has been teased as getting closer and closer to bringing hell to the Jean Grey School, but now that he’s here he’s not much more than a punching bag for the Phoenix Force 5…and Rachel Grey takes down his backup single handedly apparently (Wolverine and Hope couldn’t do that). Nick Bradshaw does fantastic penciling. His facial expression are very on point except for the emotionless Cyclops, Colossus, and Namor. The cover says this issue Gladiator gets his ass handed to him, and he does, but what the cover doesn’t say is that the best thing about this issue is that we get to know this awesome character named Ava’Dara Naganandini a.k.a. Warbird.

Story: 4 - Very Good

  1. I agree with you, Blkassassin106. Loved this issue, and this is coming from someone who has been very critical of the X-Men books lately. Let’s hope Warbird gets to stick around for a while and not suffer the fate of Lifeguard, Cerise, or Deathcry. I also liked the nod to Rachel vs the Death Commandos, and Gladiator’s appearance.
