If you are a person in need of a comic set in a superhero universe but bearing more similarity to The Bourne Identity than Spider-man, WINTER SOLDIER would be a good place to look.

#2 dives back into the action where #1 left off. Bucky’s running narration reminds me of a pulp spy novel. He and Black Widow don’t have crazy S.H.I.E.L.D. gadgetry to get them out of this predicament, relying instead of smoke grenades and know-how.

The plot does a lot of developing in this issue, and if you don’t mind a thick layer of Marvel continuity, it’s looking to be a cool international intrigue sort of story befitting the genre in which it exists.

And yeah, there’s a gorilla with a .50 cal machine gun. So if you need something you’re only likely to find in comics, there’s that too.

  1. I use reviews such as what’s seen here for two things:
    a) learn about a title I’m not following and read through the comments – see if its worth checking out, and…
    b) read comments about a title I’m following to see what the reviewer has to say.

In this particular case, I’m doing the ‘b’ option as I follow Winter Soldier.

Having said that, I’m not sure if there are spoiler concerns, but aside from the first sentence of the second paragraph, this review could easily be used to describe issue 1 as well. Sorry if I had to point this out in what is my first official post in iFanboy, dix. I’m just trying to help.

Next time, could we have a little more issue specific description added to make the issue’s review less generic? Not asking for spoilers, mind you… but some teasers for those who have not read the issue yet – or better yet, your reaction to something in the issue.

    • Yeah, I feel like I kinda phoned this one in, to be honest. Last comic I read this week, and last review I did. Thanks for reading all the same!

  2. AGAIN on the podcast? How much are you paying them (and do they take personal checks?)
