This was a gift from on high for me. I am in the process of building
a website (www.newtocomics.com) of which a large focus is getting people to read comics that haven’t otherwise read them. Every week I go through all the newest
releases and I highlight the most “noob” friendly of the current
offerings.

This is by far the best thing I have come across.
You can hand this to anyone that has never picked up a comic before and
say “look at this”. Everyone instantly feels comfortable with the
format. It feels just like a newspaper. You unfold it like one. It
smells like one. They KNOW it. At least they think they do. Within its
pages they find comic strips unlike any comic strips they have seen
before. The quality of the art hits them (“Wow! This is way prettier than Dilbert!”). They don’t feel like they walked into the last half hour of a film because the stories are ones they can wrap their heads around quickly, and with no prior knowledge. In other word the stories don’t assume that you have read 35 years of a character’s history.

I have to reserve judgment of the stories because they aren’t complete. For what IS there I can say that I am intrigued. The art is gorgeous and truly lends itself to the large format.

ps- If there is anyone out there that has any interest in getting new readers into this art form that we love so much, we need all the help we can get.Details can be found at http://www.newtocomics.com/help.htm

Shameless plug, I know. But at least I’m not posing for pictures with Italian Sausage. 🙂

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. gotta luv DC

  2. And besides the X-Men’s convoluted history, it is DC that gets the rap for being nerd-centric. Try and explain Crisis to someone and you see that zombie like gaze come over their face. The irony being that they did Crisis to consolidate continuity.
