The Warriors is one of the best films period.

Yes I know coming from a film guy like me that sounds insane. But seriously, this film has everything. Great action, great music, great characters…..okay the acting might not be on par with Godfather but hey it’s the 70’s, what are ya gonna do? Let me tell you about this: I fucking love this film with a heartbeat. I got two versions of the film, I got a poster hanging on my wall, I got the PS2 version of the perfect adaptation video game….I have a huge nerd love for this. So when I heard, thank god from this site, that a comic was about to come out well I just had to take out money from my savings account to get this.

It’s a bit difficult to review this because in a sense your just reviewing the film. This comic series is made by the ‘Dabel Brothers’ company; a company that once started the Dark Tower and Ender’s Game adaptations until they signed a contract with Marvel. So obviously this company loves to do adaptations. This issue covers the basics for the premise, or basically the first 10-15mins of the film. We get introduced to all the characters, some of the gang we’ll see later on, and basically be remembered how screwed up NYC was in the 70’s.

My only complaint about this is the art. Now it’s not terrible, but it certainly isnt the best thing out there. You can tell that the faces are drawn to resemble the film exactely instead of just relying on instincts to draw the faces. So sometimes the faces and body structure is a bit off, and the background colors are a bit muddy…..even for a trash pile that the 70’s NYC was.

Overall this was a good start to an adaptation of a film I love. Sure it might be bias that I’m giving it a good score but who cares? If people can rate a comic high because of a certain character (you know who you are) then I can love this adaptation if I want too. I do strongly recommend to watch ‘The Warriors’ though.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
