Why does this feel like I've read it many times before.
There has been a large amount of rebellion of a corrupt machine where the maverick anomaly will tear down the infrastructure in order to serve the common good stories. Right up there with farm boy longs for heroic destiny. I've been reading Terry Pratchett and I love how he pokes fun at stuff like this, saying "If your 3 brothers have been killed by the huge evil dragon and you were the smallest weakest one, then there is possible way you'll not defeat him." But I digress.
Anyway,Abnett and Lanning did a solid job of writing this, but something felt old hat about it. I didn't care for the opening with Chris trying to avoid fighting the Empress's entourage. If Rachel could find him then she should have been able to see his intentions as well. And so help me if there was ever a crossover between Darkhawk and any of the X-titles in the 90's where any one from the Starjammers teamed up with him. Of course, Rachel couldn't find him when he powered down, so that didn't make sense. If she could find him once, she should have been able to find him again, regardless of the body his mind was occupying.
I really enjoyed the art and how the suit shifted when it needed to be more sleek or powerful. I especially liked the carbon fiber suit. I don't know that I agree with the explanation of how the suit changes, but it works well enough as a mcguffin.
This was a good arc that gave Darkhawk a good start for an ongoing series. I'd love to read more about the character as long as DnA are associated with it. It gives them a starting point and as Nova proves that given a half way decent starting point, they make great comics.
