Moon Knight is back and he's better than ever. This was one hell of an issue. Its was easily the best Moon Knight comic I've read since issue #13 of the last series.
What I really enjoyed about the issue was how Huruwitz integrated everything that had happened in the last series into this one without making it seem overbearing. He infused it perfectly, and the transition all made perfect sense. I really enjoyed seeing Moon Knight's darker side in the last version, but I think I may just enjoy seeing his heroic side even more.
Basically, Moon Knight is on a quest for redemption. He has killed Bushman, he's dealt with its after effects, and he's putting it behind him. He's stopped thinking about how he tortured and mutilated everyone else, and he's turned a new leaf. He no longer kills or tortures, he just leaves them for the cops. Now, true, I will probably occasionally miss the hardcore vigilante that he used to be (I am a Punisher fan after all), but I think this is definitly a turn for the better. I'm glad to see Bushman has not left though, that one little unstable portion of MK's mind still showing itself, even though he's able to resist the temptation now.
Particularly, my favorite scene was the next to last one where on the page you saw MK standing on the roof of a building thinking about if he could really change. For one, it is a great monolouge by MK on his new self, but also, I greatly appreciated this page's art. For one, Opena was absolutly outstanding throughout the issue, no one can draw MK like he can. But on this page specifically, it continually zoomed in from him standing on the ledge to a close up of his face, abd it all looked absolutly spectacular. I also found it quite symbolic, with all of his costume illuminated by the sun, and him being in all white. It was kind of like his cleansing, ridding him of the person he was.
I'm quite interested to see where the series will go from here. My hopes are that Huruwitz will involve the supporting cast a lot, since they are all great characters deserving of the spotlight. I also wouldnt mind seeing a resurgence in the Marc Spector personality at some point, creating more of a conflict between the two sides. I think a dynamic like that could be quite interesting.
Overall, an amazing issue and I'm can't wait to buy the rest of the series.
Art: 5 - Excellent
